Bothell mayor rebukes Sims
Letter takes county executive to task over homeless camp

BOTHELL -- Neighbors opposed to a camp for the homeless between Kirkland and Bothell are seeking court relief, while Bothell Mayor Patrick Ewing sent a stinging letter of rebuke to County Executive Ron Sims, who OK'd the camp last week.
The mayor's letter yesterday took the executive to task over what Ewing described as a "lack of public process" and little advance notice.
"The city of Bothell wants to emphasize in no uncertain terms that this type of action by King County, without a meaningful and timely public process, is totally unacceptable," Ewing wrote.
A spokeswoman for Sims, Elaine Kraft, said she had not seen the letter.
Notice that a temporary camp -- to be dubbed Tent City4 -- was received by the city and its neighbors barely a week before it was to open yesterday.
At a boisterous public meeting with county officials and camp organizers Monday, the neighbors rebelled loudly, prompting the county and camp organizers to delay the camp's opening until May 17. Whether that date now will hold is unclear.
