Clinic shooting victim said to be in comaCriminal complaint cites wounds
LARSON JUSTICE CENTER -- The teenage girl who was shot at a local women’s health clinic one week ago is in a coma, according to court documents.
The wound or wounds caused her "to become comatose due to brain injury or to suffer paralysis of a permanent nature," according to the felony criminal complaint filed this week in Riverside County Superior Court at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
The document only identifies the shooting victim as 17-year-old "Sara S."
She reportedly was hospitalized in critical condition at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs after the shooting on the morning of April 29.
At her family’s request, no update has been issued on her medical condition.
The person accused of shooting her is Jeffrey Cameron FitzHenry, 17, of rural Indio.
FitzHenry pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon during a detention hearing in Juvenile Court at the Larson Justice Center.
Both of the charges ag-ainst Fitz-Henry have attached allegations related to use of a firearm and having the intention of inflicting great bodily injury, which increase the potential punishment for each charge.
FitzHenry will be tried as an adult and could be sentenced to life in prison if he’s convicted.
Bail has been set at $1 million pending a May 18 preliminary hearing.
