UTC Outlines Its Layoff Plans-Most Are Outside Connecticut (3000 jobs)

Hartford-based United Technologies Corp. will eliminate 3,600 jobs through 2005 at its various subsidiaries, according to information filed this week with the Securities and Exchange Commission as part of its first-quarter report.

About 800 of the job cuts already have occurred, the report adds. The filing does not break down the job cuts for individual subsidiaries, but does indicate that the total does include layoffs that already have taken place.

UTC spokesman Paul Jackson said today the cuts have been mostly at operations outside Connecticut.

UTC's subsidiaries include East Hartford-based Pratt & Whitney, Hamilton Sundstrand in Windsor Locks, and South Windsor-based UTC Fuel Cells.
