A day after the Republican president apologized about the humiliation suffered by Iraqi prisoners, Bush hit the campaign trail with a bus tour through the battleground states of Iowa and Wisconsin.
He lauded his administrative team and said the scandal was an unwarranted stain on the character of U.S. troops.
"I've put together a fantastic team of people," Bush told a Dubuque conference hall of cheering, flag-waving supporters while standing before a red, white and blue screen emblazoned with the moniker, "America: safer, stronger, better."
"The abhorrent pictures on our TV screens have stained our honor. They do not reflect the nature of the men and women we have sent overseas. We've sent decent, compassionate, honorable, sacrificing citizens," he said.
"The cause of freedom is in good hands," the president added.

Ooooh - so it the "pictures'" fault! Those bad pesky acting out inanimate objects! Can't be the subject matter of the pictures? Can be the people in the pictures actions being depicted? Noooo - it's the "pictures"!
Twisting and turning in this strong wind that blows this stupid nasty piece of reviling flotsam right out of the people's house.
