Family group condemns Illinois politicians for pandering to homosexuals
GLEN ELLYN -- Peter LaBarbera, Glen Ellyn-based Illinois Family Institute's executive director, condemned Sen. Dick Durbin and GOP state party chairman Judy Baar-Topinka for supporting fundraising events sponsored by Chicago area gay activists.

Durbin was scheduled to attend a fundraiser for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Barack Obama on Friday, which featured U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton.

"It is always wrong when leaders -- from either major party -- pander to the homosexual lobby, which is on the verge of destroying the sanctity of marriage in the United States," LaBarbera said. "These unprincipled politicians are out of step with the people they are supposed to represent, and with their own professions of faith."

Calling Friday's event with Obama and Clinton Durbin's "latest embrace of the homosexual activist agenda," LaBarbera said, "Durbin is a professing Catholic. The Roman Catholic Church warns against any government recognition of homosexual unions, especially gay marriage."

5. Actually, I feel sorry for Peter
he must be a miserable son-of-a-bitch to be so threatened by the thought that others might be happy. He's really just jealous that gays don't have to deal with all that "opposite sex" crap (bet he has a copy of Men are From Mars) and he's secretly terrified of women. And probably has a tiny penis, too.

6. It is always wrong

when leaders -- from either major party -- pander to the right wing religeous lobby, which is on the verge of destroying the sanctity of marriage in the United States by labeling marriage as a religeous ceremony only. Which is on the verge of destroying our constitution with a constitutional amendment defining marriage according to their religeous beliefs. These unprincipled politicians are out of step with the people they are supposed to represent and with their own professions of faith.

On Edit: I recall a lesson I've learned over and over in life. Someone's comments or negative behavior toward another person doesn't say anything about the other person. It says something about the person who made the comment. In this case, Peter actually reveals the truth about himself. He's projecting.

7. Illinois Leader is a GOP rag.
I read them sometimes to find out just how screwed up the Illinois GOP really is, but beyond that, they do NOT represent mainstream Illinois (thankfully!)

Please, everyone, do NOT take this article to be representative of Illinois as a whole.

8. of course, the headline could have read "supporting"
Edited on Sat May-08-04 09:38 PM by pinto
which is the action described in the article. We all know "pandering" has sexual overtones, ie "to pander" is to "procure for sex, or solicit for sex".

We gays are still targets....

9. Somebody please explain to me...
Just exactly HOW Homosexuals are "deatroying marriage"

Brtiney Spears gets married in a fit of drunken "what-the-hell-ness" and gets it "fixed" the next business day.

I've been married twice. both ended in divorce. The first lasted 4 years, the second 8 (yes, I'm improving, aren't I?)

I'll go out on a limb and state (with nothing more to back me up than a gut feeling)that in this country, more Straights get divorced than Gays...

Tell me again, HOW do Gays "threaten Marriage"???

10. A little Illinois fact from a resident...
Right next to Glen Ellyn is a town called Wheaton. Wheaton is the county seat of DuPage County which is an enormously powerful Republican stronghold with cronyism and plenty of money. What Wheaton's real claim to fame is Wheaton College. Wheaton College may have been founded in 1860, but the big building with the high steeple is the Billy Graham Center. *hint hint*
