ACLU says student's expulsion for Web site violates his rights

Lancaster, Ohio- The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio has told school officials that the expulsion of a high school junior over his personal Web site was a violation of his free-speech rights.

Gary Daniels, ACLU litigation coordinator, said the district did not have the legal authority to punish Thomas Seifert for targeting the school and staff on the site. He noted that Seifert's Web site was created off school grounds and used no school resources.

The site included images of teachers and a message board with postings aimed at the school and individual administrators, Daniels said.

let's give this Board a test

This past week, some DUers posted John Kerry's speech to the New Democrats (DLCers) and the points he made during that speech: Test Teachers ... well, I know as a former teacher that that doesn't go over well ... 'testing' won't produce great teachers ...

... I have a friend retiring this year from NC schools ... model teacher ... and, I ran past her "snips" from the article without saying 'who' was promoting them ... and, asked, as a education vet, what she thought:

"hell no!

teachers want flexibility to grasp and capitalize upon "..those teach-able moments", the ones only a TEACHER (not an instructor) recognizes, the ones seldom experienced now after a decade or so of hard-core TEST TEST TEST mania. the pupils who've been mangled into pulp through the testing mania are in large degree
apathetic, cynical and bleary-eyed."

Just as the preacher who fans anti-gay feelings among parishioners, these teachers teach the example of Zero Tolerance for Free Speech and students who express themselves.

It's no wonder that many children are confused about the law. Teachers deliberately confuse and obfuscate lecture with example.
