By CHARLES J. HANLEY, AP Special Correspondent

Detailed allegations of psychological abuse, deprivation, beatings and deaths at U.S.-run prisons in Iraq (news - web sites) were met by public silence from the U.S. Army last October — six months before shocking photographs stirred world outrage and demands for action.

At the time, one ex-prisoner sensed that words might count for little. Instead, Rahad Naif told a reporter, "I wish somebody could go take a picture of Camp Bucca." ...

1. Sickening
I rated it a five to keep it alive. It seems as though the Administration has known about this for a long time and just looked the other way. Didn't David Kay say that he had been telling people about the abuse? When was he there with the survey team? Last summer? His report came out last fall and he had been meeting privately with officials then, wouldn't he have told them?

"Once we were saying prayers for the death of a prisoner, and we were chanting, so they kept food from us for a day and a half," Saad Naif said.

I know a picture's worth a thousand words, but why weren't these stories more widely known?

These stories were in the news... I guess we were all too caught up in the primaries to notice?

3. I rated it a five, as well
We heard that this was going to get worse and I think this is just the tip of the iceberg. The photos that we have already seen are more than I can take. I can't imagine worse, but know that they are coming. And we wonder why they hate us. They already had more than sufficient reason. If this doesn't bring down the Bush* administration. what will?
