Iraqi abuse 'known in February' (UK)

Downing Street has confirmed it received a Red Cross report on alleged abuses by UK troops on Iraqi prisoners in February.
A spokesman said action had been taken in response but declined to give details of the allegations or how they had been dealt with.

He said this was because the report remained confidential.

He spoke after the Conservatives called on the government to reveal when it had learned of the claims.


On Saturday Shadow defence secretary Nicholas Soames urged Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon to give a statement to the Commons on Monday on the issue.

He demanded to know when the government learned of the abuse and to give details of investigations by the Royal Military Police into allegations of abuse by UK troops made in the Daily Mirror.

These are not isolated. The Red Cross has been reporting on this for some time. Amnesty International has been reporting.

This is typical of abusers. They are not sorry for what they did, only that they got caught.
All the enablers, then say it was that big a deal and cite all these other issues.

This is the cycle of abuse. This is why women who are abused stay in a bad situation. The guy apologizes, brings flowers, is sweet for a day or two. And then it starts again. The humiliation, the treating the victim as worthless, the demeaning, the saying you asked for it because you didn't do xxxx, the victim starts to believe it. The abuse continues. Rummy's not a good actor..They've been coached, and that Meyers is the kingpin of lies...Note that everytime Rummy was asked something he didn't know, he said he couldn't hear or whatever...that was the cue for Meyers to intervene with a response = lie.

The ONLY thing they're SORRY and ANGRY about is that they got CAUGHT and the invention of modern technology! If those reservists didn't have digital cameras, camcorders, and CD burners, they would've been home free. Can you imagine their debriefings?!
