<<The women vented their anger at US soldiers posted behind the coils of barbed wire that barred the way to the notorious Abu Ghraib prison that lies alongside the main road west of Baghdad.

They wanted, but failed, to speak to those in the charge of the jail, which had been a feared torture and detention centre under Saddam Hussein.

"I have been here since dawn in the hope of meeting a prisoner being freed so I can ask if he knows anything of my son," said one woman, Um Hassan.

"I tremble for him every time the television shows pictures of the mistreated prisoners at Abu Ghraib." >>

2. Who can help these mothers, wifes and sisters?
Our country sits here wallowing in the biggest international incident of my memory, scratching it's head and saying...how can we repair the damage?

Does it take a mom from the Midwest to tell them to get some god damn public relation officers to that prison NOW and start communicating with these women. They have to know that the uncertainty of your loved ones fate is worse then finding out the truth that something bad has happened to them.

Even if the people in charge are not ready at this point to release information of where their relatives are...possibly becasue I fear they have no frickin' clue...someone could at the VERY LEAST sit down with these women and start taking names, descriptions, etc and start a process for locating their loved ones.

Just do something for their sakes and ours. To just continue to turn them away is only making the situation worse.

Why can't anyone in charge figure out these things? We just keep diggin' the hole deeper and deeper....
