Bremer knew, minister claims
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1213186,00.html

Luke Harding in Baghdad
Monday May 10, 2004
The Guardian

Iraq's first human rights minister launched a blistering attack yesterday on America's chief administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, saying that he had warned him repeatedly last year that US soldiers were abusing Iraqi detainees.

....

Dr Turki's claims heap embarrassment on the US-led coalition and the Pentagon, and suggest both had been aware of the widespread abuse much earlier than previously admitted. Dan Senor, Paul Bremer's spokesman, told the Guardian that Mr Bremer only found out about the "humiliation" of prisoners in January.

Yesterday Dr Turki said that in March he and other US-appointed ministers had demanded an investigation after a US soldier raped a woman prisoner, documented by Major General Antonio Taguba in his report on Abu Ghraib.

1. Man, this shit is an avalanche.
Right on the top of Chimpy's corrupt head.

I thought we had reached the tipping point, but I am starting to get this queasy feeling that this is just the preliminaries.

2. and the shit is just flying around everywhere...so much corruption,

so little time....and THOUSANDS of photos need to be looked at still....including videos....and (per senator john warner, reTHUG from Virginia) AUDIO torture....

and, as rummy opined during the hearings...his biggest concern was that there is still more out there....still more coming....

it took less than 24 hours for the Washington Post to get the pentagon 'leak' of the 'official torture manual' and for Human Rights to condemn every single torture technique as 'inhumane' horror...

stay tuned...for more upcoming 'family value' POW sex-torture from bush*....including murder, rape, child sodomy, extortion, mutilation of dead bodies...all brought to you ON TV by your friendly American military soldiers and their commander-in-chief, bush*

SCHINDLER'S LIST

Ralph Fiennes plays a chilling Amon Goeth in the movie, and plays him to the point that some
people have had trouble distinguishing him from the real thing.

Poldek Pfefferberg, one of the Schindler Jews, famously said, "When you saw Göeth, you saw
death."

movie? Thanks!

In your last pic of Iraq prison;

1. Doesn't it look like the man is giving the Iraqi a command to kneel or get on the floor? Sorry, don't know if this was brought up else where.

2. Isn't he wearing sunglasses?

3. We have to look for a pic which shows the soldiers wearing helmets with the live web cam unit on their helmets. That would be proof it was being recorded and on military databases.

no more than 6 or 7 years old. Cruelty is the essence of humanity.

19. You have to assume that the pistol to the head technique
has been used at least a few times so far. There was some talk a while back about it being like a "turkey shoot".

20. ACTUALLY THAT WAS COLONEL WEST
Edited on Sun May-09-04 11:00 PM by saigon68
War criminal extraordinaire, WHO LAST OCTOBER HEAD BAGGED THE IRAQI POW and then fired off a Couple of 9 mm rounds about an inch from his ear rendering a Broken Ear Drum, as a torture, terror, interrogation tactic.

This interrogation tactic WAS PRAISED by numerous TROOP APOLOGISTS AND MILITARY JOCK SNIFFERS (tm A. Colter) here at DU also on the outside by Hannity, O'Reilly, Limpbutt and others

A huge Flame War went on with these idiots (most of whom were freeper plants and are now Banned)

4. Limbaugh and other immoral Repukes say to cover up this abuse
because 'it could endanger the lives of soldiers.' (paraphrase). I don't hear anything being said that this torture may in fact be the root cause of such a large rebellion which resulted in so many American soldiers being killed and wouned (blind, amputee, ear drums blown out...) in the first place. The Iraqi people found out through word of mouth what was going on inside the prisons and saw soldiers beating people on the streets and in the back of trucks and that's what has caused the massive bloodshed in Iraq. How would you like a bag being put over your head for a few days if you never did anything wrong?

6. I've been making that point too
Right next to the word ABUSE in general Taguba's report is the word ESCAPE. Put those two words together and realize that this was happening more than 7 months ago, then you have a very good reason for so many joining the current rebellion. The news media and congress needs to be hammered on this fact.

I think we have an ally who is proud to torture also...but I have to post that somewhere else.

23. Yes, Bremer knew in November
which happens to be the month that he was suddenly summoned to Washington to meet with Rice, Powell, Rumsfeld and a Congressional delegation about the situation in Iraq. I haven't been able to find and exact date when Dr. Turki told Bremer of the torture, but Bremer went to the U.S. on Nov. 11.

The conclusion seems inescapable that Bremer had little concern about the abuses reported to him. Evidently it was still word of mouth then and pictures had not begun to surface.
