http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L10564700.htmKUWAIT, May 10 (Reuters) - Iraqi Governing Council member Ibrahim al-Jaafari said in remarks published on Monday that senior U.S. officials should be held accountable for the abuse of Iraqi prisoners.
"I am searching for the truth to be completely uncovered; who caused these crimes and what parties took part in this felony?," Jaafari told Kuwait's al-Rai al-Aam daily, when asked whether U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld should resign over the abuse scandal.
"The punishment should include...all those that contributed to this crime, whether by ordering it, hiding these facts or not talking about them," he added.
Jaafari said U.S. President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair's condemnation of the alleged abuse "is meaningless if it is not followed up with a serious, transparent and public probe that uncovers this criminal act and gives it the needed attention".
