Bush shown abuse photos at Pentagon briefing

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President George W. Bush was shown a sample of photos depicting a range of abuses carried out by US troops against Iraqi prisoners, at a Pentagon briefing with US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

"The secretary showed him a kind of representative sample of a relatively small number," a senior defense official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"He showed him kind of a range of the activities that are available."

Bush was shown large, color prints of the photographs during a briefing at the Pentagon on the situation in Iraq (news - web sites) that lasted for a little more than an hour.

It did not matter the depth of the horror depicted in the pictures, his "mind" was made up going in that Rumsfeld would stay. Everything else was a dog and pony show for the cameras to show he was "engaged." The sheer criminality of he and his coconspirators is indeed our democracy's worse nightmare.

These descriptions certainly don't sound like Iraqi guards raping young boys...

I can see it now: the Repugs will market a DVD box set of these pictures and videos. Titled "Iraq's Funniest Home Videos," these hilarious "bloopers" will include "wacky" sound effects and commentary.

Before this, we were aware of two CD's. Now all of a sudden we have 3 to choose from.

But the thing that really got me was this:

The spokesman said discussions were still underway with members of Congress on whether to make a public release of the images, and if so how. "But the emphasis right now is whether," DiRita said. However, he said, "we haven't ruled it in or out." DiRita said a major stumbling block is the concern that release of the images could have an adverse impact on prosecution of the soldiers involved in the abuse.

So thats gonna be the excuse for not letting them out in public. Boy, is it gonna be fun when the copies that the media have are leaked out....
