Pentagon possesses three disks of photos, one of which includes some brief video clips. Many of the photos are redundant, and some have little to do with Iraqi detainees but show sex between U.S. soldiers... Pentagon officials prevailed at least temporarily in their insistence that the administration not immediately release the images, which include the forced masturbation of a detainee...

The Pentagon and WH been trying to make it seem like these were that unauthorized actions of a few depraved individuals. If there are pictures of those two that could be used to further the image of them being depraved individuals acting on their own, it will focus the furry on their personalities rather than on the systemic failure that allowed all the various abuses to happen.

I'd like to think the Pentagon on it's own has taken draconian steps to prevent further abuse ... the main thing now is showing the world that we're holding everybody accountable - a la Lindsay Graham's line of questioning. If Bush aligns himself with Rumsfeld, Rumsfeld goes down somehow and Americans oust Bush in Nov, that's probably the best damage control we can hope for as a nation.

They're playing up these photos to cover over the rape and torture photographs which we already know exist. This is little more than programming notes for Limbaugh and Hannity. Non-story.

Only on Drudge, which appeals to sexually repressed republicans, and on DU, where sex is not allowed as a discussion topic, would evidence that soldiers have sex be considered latest breaking news.

exculpate themselves from blame. Sadism and torture is something Bush's base understand, but basic human sexuality, that is a mortal sin. If no one is being victimized by the sex, i.e. if there is no violence in it, well, that's the dirtiest, most obscene thing on the earth. Of course it was offensive to the prisoners, but if I were being tortured I'd say let them hump all they want, as long as you are giving me a break.

I really don't care if the entire military had a daisy chain on the prison floor, I refuse to blame anyone but Bush, Rice, Cheney, Powell, and Tenet, and then down from there. Of course you can go further back to Katherine Harris and Jeb, too. And where the hell were the commanding officers in all this?

This is so much like file-sharing in a way. The powers that be let technology get ahead of them once again, and now they are trying to pick up the pieces. I can't believe they did not foresee this happening. After the Pamela and Tommy Lee video, everybody knows what can possibly happen.
