MOSCOW (AP) — One Russian worker was killed and two were taken hostage in Iraq, Russia's Foreign Ministry said Tuesday. The three were employees of the Interenergoservis energy company working at the Southern Baghdad power station.
The attack took place Monday about 18 miles south of the city, said company representative Yevgeny Loginov. He said that assailants opened fire on the workers' car as they were returning to Baghdad from the power station.
An Iraqi citizen serving as a bodyguard and translator was wounded in the attack, Loginov said. He said the names of the Russians were being withheld pending notification of relatives.
"All possible measures are being taken for the fastest liberation of our citizens," the ministry said in a statement.
