Civilian Convoy Hit in Iraq, Several People Missing
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=564&ncid=716&e=12&u=/nm/20040511/ts_nm/iraq_convoy_dc

<snip>
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Guerrillas attacked a 21-vehicle civilian supply convoy on its way to Baghdad from Jordan on Tuesday and several people are unaccounted for, a senior U.S. military official said.

Several vehicles in the convoy were destroyed in the attack close to Rutba, near the Jordanian border, he told reporters without indicating the nationalities of those missing.

"A number of people are, as of a couple of hours ago, still unaccounted for," the official said.

The convoy may have belonged to a sub-contractor to Kellogg, Brown & Root, which supplies U.S. troops in Iraq (news - web sites), and did not appear to have had any military escort, he said.

And a kick

3. cuz KBR hires their own "military" escorts and charges the US 10x
what it actually would cost if the military did the escorting.

2. I guess they're running short of drivers for that particular route.
I can think of a few neocons and media whores who may be suitable for that job given their commitment to the cause.

I'm getting a bit hazy on that, though. What is the cause these days? I know the last two were bringing democracy to the uncilvilised tribes and then closing Saddams rape and torture rooms. What's the newest one?

5. Latest cause: shoving "freedom" down their throats,...
,...and if they fail to voluntarily accept the neocon-style freedom, then, they will be either tortured or injured or killed.

6. I guess these "Civilian Contractors" aka "Mercenaries" are about to earn
their three thousand dollars a day. We will see some pictures that will make us sicker than we are now. Cruelty on all sides is running rampant in the world.

8. When the pictures of what will happen to these poor people come out
Who will the freepers blame? C'mon. How about if one cowardly freeper interrupts his teeth extraction appointment, breaks cover and tell us who's fault will be if these American detainees wind up getting bitten by dogs, forced to simulate sex, or worse.

It'll be just a fraternity prank, eh?

10. You're assuming the Iraqi captors are as immoral as those US guards.
That's not necessarily true. The mercenaries may be treated well or may not be. The former prisoner Hamill said he was well-treated.

11. I agree, if Iraqis can maintain their discipline
It would be a smart move on their part to treat hostages well, given the ongoing propaganda battle. It is hard to say whether they can maintain the necessary discipline, given the provocations of the torture photos, though.

12. They CAN maintain discipine if they choose to...
I'm not prepapred to excuse torture on anyone's part. If someone is fighting for a cause they believe is just, they don't need the motivation of raw revenge.
