Senate Hits Back in Saudi Terror List Fight
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=615&e=1&u=/nm/saudi_usa_financing_dc

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A top U.S. Senate Republican on Wednesday criticized as "inexcusable" a refusal by the Bush administration to give Congress details about Saudi organizations and individuals that have been investigated as possible terrorism financiers.

The U.S. Treasury Department (news - web sites) formally refused on Tuesday to provide the information to the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee (news - web sites), saying disclosing the names could hamper efforts to block terrorists' money supply.

The committee's chairwoman, Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins, rejected that explanation and said she would insist the data, which she requested last month, be made available. "It is inexcusable that I have not received answers already," she said in a letter sent to Treasury Secretary John Snow. "The Treasury Department's ... response was entirely unsatisfactory."

Lawmakers from both U.S. political parties have voiced concerns the Bush administration may be seeking to shield the United States' No. 1 crude oil supplier from sanctions, despite accusations the Saudi Arabian government has turned a blind eye to Saudi wealth underwriting al Qaeda and other militant organizations around the world.

You know, the lies were bad enough. Now they're protecting the terrorists for oil. This is just treason. STRAIGHT TREASON.

1. I was so hoping this would happen and
even better, this came from a Republican! I had e-mailed my 2 senators to please do something already and haven't yet heard back.

16. Yea, Maine has good Sens. For Repubs.
Olympia Snowe challanged Bush on his tax cuts
and now Susan Collins is stepping it up a notch.

I'd rather have Dems, but for repukes, these two are ok.

2. Also, I would bet, protecting power broker Grover Norquist
A while back (1998? 2000?) Grover forges a partnership with a couple of big Islamic groups for increasing Muslim GOP voters. One of the big players in this partnership, I believe, was raided in March or April of '02 - in a national crackdown of groups that have funded Islamic Terrorists.

Grover suddenly was missing in action for 6 months or so.

Then last fall he is back to his wheeling and dealing. Most recently putting pressure on GOP folks to not even meet with lobbyists (even if the co. the lobbyist works for gives $ to the congressperson) IF the lobbyist has ever given money to any democratic candidate. The list of the abuse of power tactics he has engineered is endless.

But - I think that he does have ties - not that HE was supporting terrorism - but those he recruited into the powercircle, I think do...

6. Not Norquist directly (though maybe refered to) but I have Little Doubt
that some of his associates that he nurtured to bring more $ to the GOP are in those pages.

4. "who cares what she thinks."
Unless 51, or better, 60 Senators join her, this means jack-dammit-squat.

8. "most secretive executive branch ever"
"they value loyalty above all else." Blah, blah, blah. The talking heads say this shit like these are some kind of endearing features of these f*cking nazis. It takes Larry g*ddamned Klayman to get Cheney's Energy Task Force secrets out (sorta). This Senate is gonna do jack-shittin-nuthin' about this except maybe act outraged for a day or two, then go back to their quiet shrubhumping. The documents these f*cking nazis want to keep secret are most likely going to remain secret while they're in power. The Repigs couldn't stand the black eye of another malfeasant executive, so they're utterly refusing to deal with the unholy reign of shit and psychosis coming from the white house.

13. Well said
I couldn't have said it better myself.

"The Repigs couldn't stand the black eye of another malfeasant executive, so they're utterly refusing to deal with the unholy reign of shit and psychosis coming from the white house."

How could any rational person see it any other way?

7. I don't know why but for some reason
when I saw Susan Collins as chairperson, I started to laugh. I don't even know why I though it was so funny. All I could think of was those photo ops all smiley faced with Bush standing next to her all smiley faced and waving before the last election. I think even Poppy was in a few of them.

9. This is deeper than politics, to me...
We're talking ACTUAL terrorism, here, with REAL evidence. The whole Iraq thing numbed us so much that, now, we're too used to rejecting paranoia about terrorism and the BS that Bush fed us. But this is the real deal. This actually happened. The Saudis were financing the guys that flew those planes into those buildings. And Bush doesn't care, because they sell us cheap oil.
That's TREASON. I'm PISSED.

10. And the American people can't hear about this story ...
Because we have to hear about Kobe and Arnold 24/7.

That pisses me off.

11. Saudis and Collins
Senator Collins has been one of the moderate Repugs, who have not followed the neo-cons blindly. Also I saw Arlen Spector interviewing the jackass from Treasury and he was definitely going full out, no holds barred. That's 2 pugs on our side.

12. A lot of Pugs are...
Most of the articles I'm reading say that senators from "both sides of the aisle" are looking for this information to get released. They're gonna get a subpoena pretty quick here. Sounds like they'll be able to get ahold of it.

Spector yes, but Snowe and Collins more are moderate and will not be a shrill to the Hard Rightists!
I am not suprised that she is going after this information! Chaffee will most likely join them!

15. While they're at it they need to insist that the Enron national energy...
...policy documents are made public.

- All the Documents this corrupt admin continus to hide are related to Saudi, Iran and Iraq....and the energy/military industry.

- This corruption goes back to the Reagan/Bush administration...which is why they've also 'classified' their presidential papers.

17. Hey Q:
The energy documents could proove devistating to Bushco and clear Grey Davis. This is such B.S. All we are hearing about is how great Arnuld is. Davis did nothing wrong. The energy crisis is Bushco's fault!
