(AGI) - Rome, May 11 - "After the torture scandal, we want a breakthrough within seven days or a withdrawal". The leader of the Margherita party, Francesco Rutelli, is taking a clear stance in an interview with the daily La Repubblica, after the torture scandal in Iraq: "We will ask the Italian government - said Rutelli - to abandon their current policy of total obedience, which needs to be explained to Parliament and the Italian people. And Berlusconi should do so in parliament before Thursday, when he leave for the States to meet Bush. This visit should mark a complete break otherwise the dishonour of the tortures will also affect the servile attitude of the Italian government and a withdrawal of our troops will be inevitable. The June 30 deadline is too late". Rutelli then urged the Italian government to demand the resignation of the US defence secretary: "Rumsfeld is the last link in the chain of command of which the Italian troops are part. Our soldiers should not even stay in Iraq for another week if Bush does not sack Rumsfeld.

7. WRONG!!!
Why are people still letting Bush off the hook?

""Rumsfeld is the last link in the chain of command of which the Italian troops are part."

Bullshit. Rumsfeld isn't Commander in Chief; Bush is.

9. No, a president of the U.S. would be the top link in the chain.
But not Dubya. No bucks stop anywhere near him.

8. I hope that the neo-fascist government is defeated there.
Berlusconi does not represent the best of Italy, but its worst. Italy has no place acting as junior partner for occupation--they tried that in the past but someone ended up strung up by their heels--the PM should take note.
