Nine killed as gunmen clash in Somali capital
Mogadishu - Nine people were killed and 29 others wounded on Tuesday when rival gunmen clashed for the second day in the north of the Somali capital, Mogadishu, witnesses said.

"Nine people have been killed and 29 others have been wounded. The fighting continues," said a resident of northern Mogadishu who did not want to be named.

The fighting erupted on Monday afternoon, when gunmen guarding the Global Hotel disagreed with rival gunmen near Behani Road. Five people were killed in the clashes that ensued.

1. Is this another place you wish we had U.S. troops to spare?
Oh that's right, the U.N. and the U.S. were already there and neither had the will to do anything. I believe we took a few casualties and the complainers in the states cried for us to leave. Well that worked well, didn't it?

2. Fighting intensifies in Somali capital
At least 15 people were killed, 25 wounded and hundreds displaced north of the Somali capital on Wednesday, bringing the total number of dead in three days of clashes between rival gunmen to 29, witnesses and medical sources said.

An AFP journalist at the scene of the clashes in Mogadishu's Abdul Aziz residential district said fighting was fiercer on Wednesday than the previous two days and had spread well beyond its original flashpoint.

"Seven people died in hospital in Mogadishu and four bodies were collected from the battle zone in Abdul Aziz district. About 25 people have been wounded," said a Somali nurse who did not want to be named. Elders said four more people died later.

Most of the casualties were civilians, the nurse added.
