Sadr offers peace deal for dialogue

NAJAF — Moqtada Sadr offered yesterday to end his insurgency in Iraq if the US-led coalition agreed to negotiations, according to leaflets handed out by his office in Najaf.

“I am ready to end everything if the occupation forces officially ask for negotiations on condition that these negotiations are just and transparent and under the stewardship of the Shiite religious authorities,” according to a statement signed by him.

Sadr’s Mehdi Army militia has suffered heavy losses in battles with the US-led military during fighting in the capital Baghdad and in southern Shiite cities.

Sadr is wanted by the US military in connection with the murder of a rival cleric last year. He has been holed up in the holy Shiite city of Najaf for more than a month where he has issued a series of dire threats against the US forces.

1. There is a
SCIRI rally scheduled for Friday in Najaf, where it is expected that they will riot against Sadr's military and cause the 'illusion' of a civil war. The US has committed to not stepping in IF things go violent at the demonstration. Read this:

if you want to know how to properly interpret the inevitable propaganda to come out of the corporate media on this issue over the weekend.

3. No if we
do something about it.

See this poll I conducted:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=521722

This poll could mean that John Kerry had better start talking about withdrawing from Iraq or perhaps he should be replaced by a more viable candidate. That is, if the Anybody But Bush quagmire of self-delusion can be overcome.

DEMAND that he represent you, and the blood of Iraqi's will no longer be on your hands.

It makes me sad too.

4. At this point Kerry can no more be replaced as the Dem
candidate than Bush can be replaced as the Republican candidate.

It's true that Bush (or Kerry) could drop out, but that's not likely to happen.

5. what's your definition of "viable"?
Considering Kerry won the nomination in a landslide? Do we just throw that process out the window? It was a democratic process, after all.

6. I heard that the huge rally turned into 'dozens'
and the dozens ran from locals shooting at them. Mahdi claims US provocateurs.

If it fizzled that bad, the ground is moving under their feet.
