Reporter says Berg held in custody entire time by US authorities
U.S. officials say he was never in the custody of coalition forces. While in Iraqi police custody, they said, he was interviewed three times by FBI agents who were suspicious of his identity and warned that the country was too dangerous for unprotected Americans. He was offered a free flight home, but he declined, officials said.
But Hugo Infante, a Chilean reporter who got to know Berg in Baghdad, told Newsday that Berg recounted that Iraqi police had quickly handed him to U.S authorities in Mosul and that he had been held the entire time in a jail where U.S. soldiers were his guards.
Even CNN had a translator on saying that the Pentagon got the translation wrong.
I thought this one would have been bought hook, line, and sinker. It seems that the prisoner abuse story woke these media whores up. Some may even become journalists again.
"he had been held the entire time in a jail where U.S. soldiers were his guards."
Sounds like the administration is going to have to really reach for a new lie which will explain why they have been denying it strenuously so far, even after the parents already sued the gummint and Rumsfeld personally concerning his 13 days kept WITHOUT access to the outside world.
there is a cover-up going on over Berg. Berg worked on the communications at the prison and he worked there at night, he sent out E-Mail with pictures to his family and clients, I think he knew too much about what was going on and 'someone' wanted him 'quieted down'. :-(
