Ken Dryden to run for Liberals, says report (Canada)
Glad to see he's a liberal. He'd been mentioned as a possible candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party at one point. An added bonus - get that former Canadien out of the head office at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. :)

1. Pretty smart, guy, too.
Dryden, 56, played in the legendary 1972 Canada-Russia series and won six Stanley Cups tending goal during seven seasons with the Montreal Canadiens.

He graduated from Cornell University and received a law degree from McGill University in 1973, while he was playing pro hockey. He is currently president of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and is the author of several books, including the acclaimed The Game.

BTW: I am having difficulty accessing anything on the Montreal Canadiens' homepage. Every time you click on something (history, key figures, retired numbers), it does not give you what you want.

2. In York Centre, so they're finally putting down Eggleton.
As trades go, Dryden for Eggleton is wildly unbalanced.

5. Mixed feelings about this, because Dryden
was always my favourite Hab (I admired how he suspended his hockey career for a couple of years to pursue a law degree), and he seems like a decent sort. Always good to see that kind enter public life.

But on a purely partisan level, it's a bit of a bummer. York Centre's Liberal support was softening, and polls of the riding were showing that NDP councillor Maria Augimeri, should she run, would stand a good chance of winning. Against Dryden, though, I doubt it.

4. Dryden is a legend in Quebec
Locals, especially the old timers speak very highly of him and credit him for those Habs Stanley Cups.

Great to see he supports the Liberal Party of Canada!

6. Wow! The Octopus! As a Bruins fan, I hated this guy, but....
he's ok now. Hope he doesn't puck up the campaign.
