I pray for his family.

Mayor, subject of investment-fraud investigation, dies of apparent suicide
By Associated Press
Thursday, May 13, 2004

The mayor of Union Point, Georgia has apparently killed himself just hours before he was to face a grand jury.

The Greene County sheriff says Mayor Ben Stewart called the Union Point police chief and told him he was going to kill himself. Police found Stewart gravely wounded, and he later died at a hospital.

Stewart was to testify before a grand jury investigating allegations of investment fraud stemming from his failed business, Stewart Finance. The Georgia secretary of state's office says the state is attempting to recoup millions for investors.
