Israeli missile strikes kill 19 Palestinians
Israeli missile strikes kill 19 Palestinians
Friday 14 May 2004

Three more Palestinians have been killed and about 20 wounded in the latest Israeli missile strikes on the southern Gaza Strip refugee town of Rafah.

Israeli helicopter raids on Rafah continued late into Thursday night, Aljazeera's correspondent reported.

At least seven Palestinians were killed and seven others wounded in a missile strike launched from Israeli helicopter gunships earlier on Thursday.

Two missiles were fired in that attack, Rafah hospital director Ali Mussa, told AFP.

The attacks follow an ambush on an Israeli armoured vehicle by Palestinian resistance fighters, which left five Israeli soldiers dead in Rafah on Wednesday.

The deaths bring to 19 the number of Palestinians killed since Wednesday.

2. How ridiculous
Attacking invading military forces in occupied lands--THAT is terrorism. Bombing indescriminately is anti-terror.

19. I wonder if the tens of thousands of Israeli protestors agree with you.
I rather doubt it.

4. "Israeli missile strikes kill 19 Palestinians"
I do not understand how this can continue without any member of our government protesting LOUDLY.

I understand that the Palestinians are no angels, but to use rockets fired from helicopter gunships into civilian neighborhoods is ridiculous.

Where is the rest of the world that so adamantly opposed the US's indiscriminate bombing in the early stages of this "war"?

It is amazing to me how hypocritical everyone can be when Israel is involved.

Just realised that we've actually had five replies to a report about
Palestinians being killed without the obligatory "It rawwwkkks"
contribution from the rabid one.

If so, Jim - good for you. Seriously.

9. As US funded rockets....
....blow their rubble into smaller pieces of rubble. As US funded rockets turn civilians into martyrs and help breed a new generation of suicide bombers.

Real smart

10. hmmm.
Interesting how I didn't hear about this one a single American news network during their reading of the headlines...granted, they may have mentioned it once or twice, but there was no consistent coverage of it like there would have been for an Israeli suicide bombing.

11. Missile strikes
were not in residential neighborhoods, and did not kill 19 Palestinians. As this article points out, the Palestinians were killed in clashes with the IDF.

Never believe Al Jazeera.

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/427657.html

Note that 13 IDF soldiers have been killed in the last four days. This is not mentioned in Al Jazeera report either.

13. Surely you jest.
What's next - "believe me, not your lying eyes!"

I've seen the footage on the CBC. It did, indeed, happen in residential areas.

"This is not mentioned in Al Jazeera report either."

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/1C1307DD-BF73-4769-AD70-5106EA7C4ADA.htm

The failed assassination attempts came after a week in which 13 Israeli soldiers were killed in Gaza, most of them in two deadly attacks claimed by Islamic Jihad.

Al-Jazeera does mention the IDF deaths. Stop lying.

14. Some more context
"The soldiers were part of a unit stationed in a home of an elderly Palestinian woman in the Brazil refugee camp in the town.

On Friday afternoon, the woman asked to leave the house in order to buy food. When she returned, the soldier who opened the door for her was hit by Palestinian fire, and later died of his wounds."

15. Please note you have switched articles
The original post on this thread was dated May 14 and claims in the Headline that 19 Palestinians were killed by missile strikes. That article was removed. It no longer exists, except the portion the was copied on this thread, which does not mention the Israeli deaths, but claims the Palestinian deaths were due to the missile strikes, which in fact, according to the article you posted above, no one was killed in the missile strikes, however, there were injuries.

As I said, the article posted at the start of this thread contains false reports. It is no jest, and my statement stands true. It is verifiable by anyone who reads this thread.

16. You said "never trust Al-Jazeera" and then suggested a "reason"...
...that "reason" being that they didn't mention the IDF deaths in the story originally posted.

Yet Al-Jazeera does mention those deaths, in another story. Thus, your comment was misleading, because Al-Jazeera did cover them - just in a different story.

So I'll say, you weren't exactly lying - but you were not completely truthful about Al-Jazeera, either.

17. I still recommend
Don't trust al Jezzera. Always check with another source. Many DUers went by the original article which was titled in a very misleading way. Even if that is corrected in a later article, it does not eliminate the effect of the headline.

18. it is in the very same story, Gimel..
Edited on Sun May-16-04 07:55 AM by Aidoneus
Your support of Sharon (which I know you do) should not so depart from reality that lies are so blatent. From the very same article:--

Second ambush

Israeli occupation forces continued to suffer a high number of fatalities in the third day of increased fighting between Israeli troops and Palestinian resistance fighters.

Israeli occupation forces on a raid into Rafah were ambushed when their armoured vehicle was blown up. Five Israeli soldiers were killed.

The Palestinian resistance group, Islamic Jihad, claimed responsibility for the ambush, saying it was to avenge the killings of some of its leaders as well as the assassination of Hamas founder, Shaikh Ahmad Yasin.

Islamic Jihad fighters said they used an anti-tank rocket and a large bomb laid in the armoured vehicle's path to destroy it.

In a similar incident on Tuesday, six other Israeli soldiers were killed when their armoured vehicle was destroyed.

The missile strikes you refer to with "no one killed" took place AFTER those in this report did. A newer report would give reference to those, not one that had been written before they had occured.

From what I've read of it, Aljazeera's English is far from perfect.

20. 13 Israelis and 29 Palestinians dead this week
Edited on Sun May-16-04 07:45 AM by maddezmom
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel's top general threatened Sunday to destroy hundreds of Palestinian refugee homes after the Supreme Court cleared the way for demolitions in a flashpoint Israeli-held corridor on the Gaza-Egypt border.

Secretary of State Colin Powell said the United States opposed the destruction of homes in Rafah refugee camp, adjacent to the "Philadelphi" buffer zone in the southern Gaza Strip, and urged an end to a cycle of violence.

In addition to the 13 Israeli dead in Gaza this week, 29 Palestinians, militants and bystanders, were killed during fierce fighting. Several bystanders were wounded in helicopter missile strikes in Gaza early Sunday, witnesses said.
