Pakistani investigated for possible terror ties

Federal officials are investigating whether a well-educated Pakistani national who was caught attempting to buy plastic explosives, guns and silencers in Tyler this spring has ties to foreign terror groups.

Osama Haroon Satti, 35, was arrested March 8 in a Tyler motel room, where he told undercover agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that he wanted to buy C-4 explosives and more than 20 illegal silencers.

"It's an interesting case when you have someone in this country illegally trying to buy those kinds of weapons," said Brit Featherston, an assistant U.S. attorney and the federal anti-terrorism coordinator for Texas' eastern district. "Then you have a number of Web postings by Mr. Satti that are also interesting."

Citing unnamed federal sources, a Dallas television station reported Monday that investigators are trying to determine whether Satti is tied to Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistani terror group with links to al-Qaida.

The group, which the U.S. government designated a terrorist organization in December 2001, has vowed to engage in a holy war against nations deemed hostile to Islam, including the United States.

5. JayS...I care about terrorism
it just seems there is sooo much going on...and one guy being accused by an un-named source is low right now on my priorities. :)

I care about the safety of our ports, airports, water, bridges etc...where is the administration on these things?

6. I probably should have included the discussion we are having...
...down in J/PS. It concerns how you can use C-4, or some other explosive, to make a really big explosion. It can easily arrive by ship and explode, as it has in the past.

I'm not sure what all the current administration is doing about the safety of all you mention. It has all gotten buried in the other news also. :)

7. REMEMBER THIS? Tie to the white terrorist who was ALSO IN TYLER???????
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=62602&print_page=true
It appears that Weapons of Mass Destruction ™ are only of interest to the Bush administration if they are in the hands of Arabs, Muslims or "rogue" states. Likewise the big news corporations in the US were ignoring this particular story of genuine weapons capable of mass destruction found in the hands of a white supremacist group in the Bush home state of Texas. This story was originally published on the Newswire on December 8th. Since then, the only big US newpaper to cover the story has been the New York Times.

Three people linked to white supremacist and anti-government groups are in custody. At least one weapon of mass destruction - a sodium cyanide bomb capable of delivering a deadly gas cloud - has been seized in the Texas area.

Last week William Krar, from Tyler in East Texas pleaded guilty to, among other crimes, possession of a chemical weapon - an actual bona fide WMD found within the USA's own borders - yet the US media largely remains silent on the issue.

8. "US media largely remains silent on the issue"
The media has been silent on a lot of issues lately. There have been incidents in addition to the ones you mentioned. This is just a guess but I am willing to bet the media will be thrilled to cover the next terrorist attack here.

Have a look at the info below. A secret service agent describes in detail a tape that is not supposed to exist. The government says the tape never existed and that is the end of it. Barely any media interest at all. If Watergate were to happen today it would go nowhere.

Document: Oklahoma City Bombing Was Taped
By JOHN SOLOMON, Associated Press Writer
Mon Apr 19, 6:59 PM ET

WASHINGTON - A Secret Service document written shortly after the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing described security video footage of the attack and witness testimony that suggested Timothy McVeigh (news - web sites) may have had accomplices at the scene.

"Security video tapes from the area show the truck detonation 3 minutes and 6 seconds after the suspects exited the truck," the Secret Service reported six days after the attack on a log of agents' activities and evidence in the Oklahoma investigation.

An entry a day earlier on the same log reported that the security video was consistent with a witness' account that he saw McVeigh's getaway car in the lead before a woman guided the truck to its final parking spot in front of the Murrah building.

"A witness to the explosion named Grossman claimed to have seen a pale yellow Mercury car with a Ryder truck behind it pulling up to the federal building," the log said. The witness "further claimed to have seen a woman on the corner waving to the truck."

A Secret Service agent named McNally "noted that this fact is significant due to the fact that the security video shows the Ryder truck pulling up to the Federal Building and then pausing (7 to 10 seconds) before resuming into the slot in front of the building," the log said. "It is speculated that the woman was signaling the truck when a slot became available."
