Sistani aide asks US forces, militia to quit Najaf
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L14347882.htm

DUBAI, May 14 (Reuters) - An aide to top Shi'ite cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani called on Friday on U.S. forces and militiamen of rebel cleric Moqtada al-Sadr to cease fighting and leave the holy Iraqi city of Najaf.

Ayatollah Mohammad Baqer al-Mohri, Kuwait-based aide to Sistani, said the fighting was spreading fast and he feared for holy sites and for Sistani's life.

"The fighting is getting closer to the house of the Grand Ayatollah. We fear that his life will be in danger," he told Reuters by telephone.

"We ask the coalition forces and (Sadr's) Mehdi militia to quit the holy city Najaf," he said. He urged U.S. forces not to violate the sanctities of Najaf or damage its shrines and cemetery where religious clerics were buried.

1. B'boom.
Folks, Sistani's words are silk scarves, wrapped ever so carefully around a razor blade.

He just told us to "get the fuck out of his yard."

If we're smart, we'll listen.

Sacred Shiite Shrine Suffers Minor Damage

By HAMZA HENDAWI, Associated Press Writer

NAJAF, Iraq - The golden dome of the Shrine of Imam Ali, one of the most sacred sites for Shiite Muslims, was hit by what appeared to be four gunshots in fighting Friday between U.S. soldiers and militiamen loyal to radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.

Four holes, each about 12 inches by 8 inches, were seen on the landmark structure by an Associated Press reporter.

3. If Grand Ayatollah is injured or killed
the US is in for the biggest shit storm in 50 years. Why must the US search out Al-Sadr? Why not just back off and bide time? Is every level of command in the US dominated by idiocy? Has the US military degenerated to the point where there are no persons capable of rational thought? Why is it so hard to accept defeat? US out of Iraq, now!

4. This guy seems pretty flaky.
Either support the occupation or oppose it! His stands lead me to think he is an opportunist.
