An essay Klein put forward as evidence he is sensitive to the Chilean-Canadian community had substantial portions lifted off the Internet, academics say.
For his part, Klein shrugged off the criticism.
"I did the paper according to the instructions received, submitted my paper, it was marked by a university professor, end of story. What is the big deal?" he told reporters Thursday.
In the Alberta legislature earlier this week, Klein held up (and later tabled to the assembly) the essay: Allende, Pinochet and the Chilean Media. He wrote the paper for a communication studies course he's taking from Athabasca University, an accredited correspondence school, which hasn't commented on the controversy.
