http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2004-05/17/content_1474532.htm AMMAN, May 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Jordan will not send peacekeeping troops to Iraq and nor should any Iraq's other neighbors, Jordan's King Abdullah II said here Monday.
Jordan supports sending other Arab troops to Iraq and is willingto help in other ways, but it would not be appropriate for Jordan, as well as other neighboring nations, to send forces to Iraq, the king said on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Because it could be too tempting to use them to improperly influence Iraqi society, the king noted.
"It's too tempting to use the presence of your troops to have animpact on society inside Iraq,'' Abdullah said. "I've taken the decision, truly, from a moral point of view, that I don't think it's right for Jordan to send troops to Iraq."
"And I don't think it's right, at the same time, for anybody else (bordering Iraq)...We have our special interests," he said.
