Bremer Denounces Killing of Othman
snip....

In a statement, L. Paul Bremer, the U.S. administrator of Iraq, called the killing a "shocking and tragic loss."

"He strove for the downfall of the former regime and the birth of a democratic Iraq," he said. "He returned to Iraq after its liberation and continued to serve his country, making an enormous contribution to the work of the Governing Council.

"The terrorists who are seeking to destroy Iraq have struck a cruel blow with this vile act today," he said. "But they will be defeated...The Iraqi people will ensure that his vision of a democratic, free and prosperous Iraq will become a reality."

4. Well that's all he can do about it. The insurgents have much better intel
then us. That's why they can blow up and kidnap people at will.

6. none of these people lived in Iraq before the invasion...what the hell
gives them the right to come back and take power? Put the people who stayed and lived the nightmare in charge to make things better.

"He returned to Iraq after its liberation "

Damn few in the stable of puppets had actually stayed and weathered the resistance to Saddam themselves, but instead hide behind the invaders' armor in order to fatten themselves.

Sadr, on the other hand, stayed in Iraq even after his father and brothers were martyred, and prepared for the revolution now taking place. The collaborators hate and fear him because of their own weakness.

Though to be fair, some of them had at least tried in the failed '91 intifada before running and hiding. The catastrophic losses that followed the collapse of resistance then may explain the weakness of the parties like al-Daawa and SCIRI--that is, their best cadres became martyrs and weaker figures replaced them--that led them to collaboration with the invader, and also for the lack of stomach for another war in the cities of Karbala` and Najaf. They were at the centre of the uprising and had their cemetaries packed tightly afterwards with fresh plots, much like al-Fallujah was after the Marines carried out their massacres there. Sistani, of course, does not wish to end up martryed like Mohammed Baqir al-Sadr and Mohammed Sadiq al-Sadr before him, though he would be wise to at least aspire to Shirazi if he wishes to stay relevant.

7. With my lead-lined tinfoil hat firmly in place,, I see the following:

First, Sy Hersh's utterly damning article hits the street, then Mr. Othman, while in US control at a US run checkpoint, gets blown up, effectively knocking Hersh's revelations off the front page.

The BFEE is the luckiest gang of maggots on the planet.

10. Wasn't he Kurdish?
I'm curious. I think though that all the "council" members have made themselves targets for anti-occupation forces.
