Powell says his assertions were wrong (Feb 5 2003 UNSC)
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2001931010_iraqdig17.html

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Colin Powell said yesterday that what he had called "the most dramatic" element of his Feb. 5, 2003, speech to the United Nations was "inaccurate and discredited."

<large snip>

"It turned out that the sourcing was inaccurate and wrong and, in some cases, deliberately misleading. And for that, I am disappointed, and I regret it," he said.

5. are the mediawhores starting to catch on?
Russert was still puzzled afterward. "A taxpayer-paid employee interrupted an interview," he said. "Not in the United States of America, that's not supposed to go on. This is attempted news management gone berserk. Secretary Powell was really stand-up. He was a general and took charge." Powell later called the NBC anchor from his plane to apologize for the glitch.

4. His Uncle was King of Iraq
And was killed by the Baathists. Their family is descended from the Prophet and could have some moral authority over the Iraqi Sunni.

15. Exactly. Colon Foul LIED KNOWINGLY and THE WORLD KNOWS IT
Lie some more, Colon. Cry me a fucking RIVER of regretful tears.

You simply cannot make me believe you were misled in any way shape or form.

You knew.

Stop lying. The number of people fooled gets smaller every time you do your General Jodl portrayal. Don't think it will get any better if you switch to your Count von Starhemberg impersonation, either.

Because Free America doesn't believe you'd EVER turn on your Masters who's Boots you lick so well.

NOTE: This is NOT a racial slur on Colon Foul. He'd be an Odious Treasonous Bootlicker of Totalitarian Masters no matter what color he is!

7. Colin, if only you'd been a man that day.
If only you'd stood up like a man on Feb 5, 2003 in front of the UN Security Council and said to them what you said earlier to Jack Straw:

'I'm not reading this. This is bullshit'

The world would have embraced you. You could have become one of the most respected men on earth. The only ones to hate you would have been the neocons and the freepers, and they hate you now anyway, so what did you gain. If only you'd been a man, just for a day.

11. What's the matter with him?
Why, all of a sudden is he feeling bad?

He ruined his own reputation because he didn't quit when they made him look bad about his ideas on Iraq.

He could have apologized when the news came out that there were no weapons of mass destruction, he didn't.

Nope, he went from being one of the most respected black men in the country to having no credibility left - might as well resign and become a hermit.

13. Betrayed
Hey, Mr. Secretary how does it feel to have betrayed first yourself, and then your entire country and the world?

How does that feel?

I feel sick.

Do you sleep at night? How?

16. DISAPPOINTED?!
Disa-freakin-ppointed, Colin? As in, you wanted a chocolate cake for your birthday party, but it was spice instead? That kind of disappointed? You churl! You lowlife! You scum!

Disappointed, like when you plan for a picnic but it rains that day? 800 dead soldiers later, and you're "disappointed"??? Tens of thousands of Iraqi citizens shocked, awed and buried, but you're "disappointed"?! I'm sure that is a great comfort to the survivors.

$150 billion pounded down a rathole, but it's okay, because you're "disappointed." Goddammit, but you'll feel disappointed standing up against a bullet-pocked wall somewhere. "Disappointed," indeed! The epitaph of a donkey.

18. Powell
sees the writing on the wall.. he knows that Bush is going down in the elections.. just another RAT deserting a sinking ship..

he's trying to effect some form of "honesty", a little reformation so that later when he sells books someone might actually BUY THEM..

he's in a bad spot..

personally I've never had any use for the guy, especially since he screwed the country with his Me Lai LIES..

he's a loser, and should be hated and reviled..

20. Is Powell referring to Chalabi here?
Edited on Mon May-17-04 03:38 PM by daleo
"It turned out that the sourcing was inaccurate and wrong and, in some cases, deliberately misleading. And for that, I am disappointed, and I regret it," he said."

I wonder if they are getting ready to cast off Chalabi. If so, perhaps the car bombing of the head of the Iraqi Governing Council was Chalabi's way of taking back the initiative. Maybe I am giving Chalabi too much credit for "making things happen", though.

On edit - another poster mentioned that Chalabi's car was only 3 cars or so ahead of the one that got hit, so it could be that he was the target.
