2. An update-
Moore, raising fist, moved to tears... Controversial scene in film shows wounded American GI talking about how Democrats must win election... Movie shows video of American soldiers laughing and taking pictures as they place hoods over Iraqi detainees, with one of them grabbing a prisoner's genitals through a blanket...

For decades they've held a film festival there. Mostly for european film makers but lately american producers have been displaying too.

I assume that was your question.

CANNES, France (Reuters) - American film-maker Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," a savage indictment of President Bush's handling of Iraq and the war on terror, was cheered and applauded at the Cannes film festival on Monday.

Film critics were warm in praise of the controversial director who later called in a news conference for America to pull out of Iraq.

"It is a such total mess. Their way of doing things has offended so many people," Moore said.

Director Moore Tears Into Bush at Cannes Festival

By Paul Majendie

Cannes, France (Reuters) --
American film-maker Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," a savage indictment of President Bush's handling of Iraq and the war on terror, was cheered and applauded at the Cannes film festival on Monday.

Film critics were warm in praise of the controversial director who later called in a news conference for America to pull out of Iraq.

"It is a such total mess. Their way of doing things has offended so many people," Moore said.

The Oscar-winning director's fast-moving film is a telling work of propaganda by a moviemaker whose mission to deride Bush exudes from every frame.

34. "a telling work of propaganda"?
I thought propaganda = lies.

If it's truth, ain't it "documentary"?

I never really believed any documentary is without a political motive. I haven't seen Morris' "Fog of War," but I've seen some of his others, along with Moore's "Roger & Me," and BFC, as well as some lesser-known short pieces. Seems to me there is ALWAYS a political agenda, but the telling difference is whether the filmmaker uses truth or lies. . . . .

Then again, is there necessarily always a line between the two?

Tansy Gold, thinkin' out loud and cheering even louder for Michael Moore.

59. Yeah. I wonder what "appropriate action" would be to a freeper?
"Appropriate action" for reasonable people might be to organize a boycott or a protest based on the perceived misrepresentation of issues. I have to wonder, tho, what kind of crapola the FR nutcases think is "appropriate".

Edited on Mon May-17-04 02:11 PM by JohnOneillsMemory
With her oh-so-French-sounding name of Michele Suzanne she is the perfect co-conspirator against the American fascists.

Viva la Revolucion!

(Use your profits to get a really good security team, Michael.)

Remember, Richard Clarke's book 'Against All Enemies' is going to be Hollywood-ized. Hollywood invests on the basis of cultural trends they percieve. Combined with the eco-disaster film, I think this is a really good sign. All those frikkin' war movies will now subside.

But I still ain't eating none of them there steenkin Freedom Fries -- the US Gov has been working overtime to suppress the recent scientific studies showing how poisonous all FRYOLATOR fried foods are. Hey, I like the way they taste, too -- but that crap is deadly. BushCo knows it, too, but since the scientific reports are not Biblically based they ain't getting to the American public which paid for them.
