Two Russian Hostages Freed in Iraq
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Two Russian engineers abducted in Iraq (news - web sites) earlier this month were freed Monday close to where they were seized in the southern outskirts of Baghdad.

The pair then returned to the Russian embassy in Baghdad, where they were given medical checks, diplomats said.

"They are fine but a doctor is giving them a check-up now and naturally they wanted to have a wash, a shave, so as to feel fully restored to normal," consul Bashir Malsagov told Reuters.

One of the freed men, it was not clear which, told Russia's NTV television: "I want to say it was an accident, though a tragic one. The people of Iraq are not enemies to us... They have been treating us as guests."

1. Thank God they were not abducted by US forces!
(Never thought I could say something like that...
and know it to be true.)

2. Another Example
Edited on Mon May-17-04 01:05 PM by The Shadow
Showing how overall the Iraqi's have treated hostages in a much more humane manner than the coalition forces.

Notice too, that the iraqi's don't seem to have a problem with those hostages that were not combatants, and even most who are considered to be combatants still seem to be treated relatively humanely.

Keep in mind the four "Americans" who were killed in Fallujah were not tourists, they were mercenaries, Hessians if you will.

3. They were safer in the hands of real insugents than in US hands
Look at the photos...no yellow walls, no orange suits, no white chairs.
They were captured and held by insurgents for real.

4. Hey,...stop stealing my thoughts *grin*.
No yellow walls or while chairs or orange suits.

They were also treated more like guests and felt it was just a misunderstanding.
