Rumsfeld says it wasn't necessarily sarin

Washington-AP -- Don't jump to any conclusions just yet. That warning comes from Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, after the U-S military in Iraq announced that a roadside bomb containing sarin nerve gas had exploded near a U-S military convoy.

Rumsfeld told a Washington, D-C audience that the "field test" showing the presence of sarin may not be accurate. He says more analysis needs to be done -- and that it may take some time to find out just what the chemical was.

In Baghdad, officials said the bomb was apparently left over from the Saddam era. They said two members of a military bomb squad were treated for "minor exposure" -- but that there were no serious injuries.

One official says the shell apparently contained two chemicals that are designed to combine and create sarin -- but that they didn't mix properly.

7. more fertalizer!!!
I've noticed that CNN has dropped it all together from its site, and even Faux has added a "further tests needed" line to it headline. Boy, Faux jumped all over this one (as usual), bumping it ahead of the IGC leaders assasination??? Makes you wonder how this alleged WMD story came out on the same day as the New Yorker article and the assasination??? Hmmmmmmmmmm??? Am I unpatriotic for questioning this? Not supporting the troops?

Why aren't the democrats hammering Hastert or Asscroft to have him temporarily removed until this matter is settled..?

23. The fear of being removed because of the prison scandal ...

is having a beneficial effect: DR's busily showing us his concern for the truth about this newest WMD claims. See! He's fair and balanced!

My conclusion: More scandals will lead to better government.

24. What a bunch of plucking liars!
The sarin 'evidence' is nothing but the "because we say so" behind it from a bunch of phucking military liars controlled by a bunch of phucking political liars. Case Closed.

Clearly, it was just too much of a bad news day for the administration.

Dead Governing Council leader.
DOD deputy secretary for intel BUSTED as the source of instructions to sexually humiliate prisoners.

Yeah, I am sure it is just a coincidence. The british Guardian quotes Miller as saying the bomb incident happened "a couple of days ago." <http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1218878,00.html>

But now it is important because the lying pieces of shyt that we call our defense establishment are busted big time. If it were a month ago that all this news was EXPOSING the liars by name, they would have used this story as "evidence" of WMD: <http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/?1c>

Cons and their con media - all a bunch of phucking lame spin doctors. Lucky for them, most cons are stupid and inattentive enough to fall for it.

13. The Tests Are Designed That Way
The field tests are designed to "err on the side of caution" and are prone to false positives. It is better to be safe than sorry.

15. Field tests are notorious for false positives
better safe than sorry with nerve agents.

That said, even if this really was a sarin shell-no one says that Iraq did not have these weapons and it is entirely possible that one or more were missed when they destroyed most of these weapons in the 90's. 1 or even a dozen shells does not equate tons of WMD. So what.

18. I believe the field tests were wrong the last two times
There was the Danish discovery, which turned out to be wrong - it was just the product of chemical decomposition of explosives, as they aged. I am pretty sure there was another, but I can't recall details. I suppose this will be the same, although I have heard it referred to quite definitively as WMD on several TV channels already today. Even if it is Sarin, it is probably Rummy's pre-1990 stock that he sold to Saddam.

19. Outrage!
Saddam had no WMD program. Period.

Michael Kay says that. Hans Blix says that. *Every* scientist in Iraq says that. There can be no doubt of this. If there were a weapons program, we would have uncovered a mountain of documentation, factories, and traces of chemicals everywhere.

Now we have one shell which may or may not contain sarin gas, and the pentagaon (my girlfriend just heard the top-of-the-hour news) is trumpeting this as proof that Saddam had a WMD program.

The dishonesty of this admininstration is really--well, I've run out of hyperbolic language. The pentagon knows damn well that at worst the shell is a left-over from the first gulf war.

But the Bush administration can say "This is proof that he had a WMD program," because literally that is the truth--he had one, befor 1990!

Now all the stupid yahoos will think WMD's have been found. And I'll have to endure that idiocy on AM radio.

Nothin' like a nose hit of Tabun to get you goin' in the morning.
To tell you the truth, I've felt all along that there are some stockpiles that WE might find, or They might use...
Either way, it's one more thing for our troops to worry about.

26. Rummy knows something and he's trying to save his butt
Rummy knows ther never were WMDs (from the past decade) so he doesn't want to be caught in another lie - therefore his debunking this one.
