White House rules out using emergency oil reserves
WASHINGTON (AFP) - The White House ruled out tapping the US strategic petroleum reserve even as gasoline prices hit a record high, menacing US President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s re-election bid.

snip

Lawmakers worried about high gasoline prices should approve Bush's energy plan, McClellan said. The plan would encourage oil drilling in the United States to cut dependance on imports.

"The president is concerned, like all Americans, about rising gas prices," he said.

Some Democrats have called on the Bush administration to release oil from the reserve. Others pressed for a temporary halt to increases in the size of the reserve.

8. The neocons are doing this in anticipation of their WWIII,...

,...in addition to gauging the people. That is how "brilliant" war-mongering profiteers plan. They usurp as much benefit as possible from their strategy to dominate. It's ALL about money + power, without regard to consequences to all the people they waste.

<they do not value human life,...they value their greedy dream of power>

2. Another stupid answer from McClellan
"Lawmakers worried about high gasoline prices should approve Bush's energy plan, McClellan said. The plan would encourage oil drilling in the United States to cut dependance on imports."

Does he think drilling in Alaska would get cheaper gas to the pumps than tapping the petroleum reserve? What a dick!! Sounds like political blackmail to me...

5. Exactly what I was thinking!
You want the oil reserves open? Approve our plan, although it does nothing to alleviate the current situation and very little to improve it in the future — unless, of course, you're one of their corporate buddies who helped write the plan.

I think their other goal is to wear down the people to put pressure on their reps. Of course, they won't know many of the details — just get this plan approved and it will "magically" lower prices now.

I can just hear more of them saying, "I don't care about some frozen place I'll never visit. Just give me cheap gas!"

They did it!!!! Not me!!!!!

Espcet the talking heads to have full discussions over the reserves and anyone who says we should tap them is endangering our safety and hates America.

4. Maybe propping up oil prices for Iraq
Iraq is getting some oil revenue that's being used for reconstruction--it's in Bushco's interest to maintain high prices. Aside from the obvious, I mean.

10. They've got a lot of money to steal
And time's running out. Even the most faithful Republican supporters are beginning to descry the hand-writing on the wall. These thieves need to grab as much as they can in the short time they have left.

11. A Texas oil man becomes President
Gas prices reach an all time high, yet he refuses to release any oil from the strategic petroleum reserve?

Coincidence? I think not.

14. These a**holes are filling the strategic oil reserves up to a max
while the working poor don't know where to get the money to fill up their car. It wouldn't hurt America a bit if they'd release some of it.

This is disgusting. Bush gives a sh*t about the poor, working class, or middle class. He is concerned with giving tax breaks to the rich so they'll continue to donate $$$ to his campaign.

15. The MARKET should resolve it -we could get Haliburton to bid it for us
I mean they are in the business so they obviously know how to make money so let's have them do the contracts and then just make a little something for the effort.

Just so long as the Saudis keep their promise and prices come down at the end of summer.

a month's supply. :eyes:

19. Release of oil Not Possible
It seems the Bush boys are very busy buying oil to fill the reserve at this time. Good idea to do this while the price is high. More profit for Bush big money backers. This boy just doesn't give a darn about the average American!
