Iraqi Leaders Demand More Powers from Washington
Iraqi Leaders Demand More Powers from Washington
By Alastair Macdonald

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi leaders and some of the United States' closest allies in the occupation demanded on Tuesday that Washington relinquish more powers than it intended to the Iraqi government due to regain sovereignty next month.

An Iraqi delegation will leave for the United Nations on Wednesday to seek full control of oil revenues and an end to the heavy legacy of war reparations left by Saddam Hussein.

Its standing among Iraqis battered by a scandal over prisoner abuse and a failure to halt violence in which the head of Iraq (news - web sites)'s Governing Council was killed on Monday, Washington is offering somewhat less than total control to an Iraqi interim government which it will establish, with U.N. help, on June 30.

Heading for talks with President Bush, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said he wanted a "clear breakthrough" on giving Iraqis real power.

2. Full control of oil revenues?! Bwahahahahaha!!!
Oh man, that was a good one! Give up control of the revenue stream from the oil? Then what was the point of invading in the first place? Cute of them to ask, though.

Next, they'll probably want to cut out the foreign ownership of their national industries!

Forget it, Ahmed. The Bush crime family stole your country fair and square, and they're not about to just hand it back to you.

5. Hand picked 'pretend' Iraqi leader goes renegade and wants it all
hmmmm, haven't the RW nation builders played this tune before? Seems they are damned slow learners.

Guess we will have to invade all over again?

Where, oh where, did the neocons go wrong? </irony>

6. Those distrustful ingrates!

We bomb their country, we seize control of and plan to privatize their resources, we censor their media, we bring the lawless flavor of the Wild West to the streets of Bagdad for their enjoyment, we run their infamous prisons for them, we patrol their country with both our own volunteer army and also with the largest mercenary army in the world, and we offer them a phony handover of power on 30 June. Halliburton is probably willing to stay there forever, to help teach them the glories of cooperation between governments and large corporations. And in return, all we ask the Iraqis to do is to play along and pretend they aren't worried about getting screwed over.

Why oh why are they making it so difficult for us? What could possibly be going through their heads? :smoke:

7. Just another example of whatever junior touches goes to hell. If I had
his record of failures, I'd lock myself up in a dard room and have my meals slipped under the door for the rest of my life.
