Material Given to Congress in 2002 Is Now Classified (Siebel Edmonds)
The Justice Department has taken the unusual step of retroactively classifying information it gave to Congress nearly two years ago regarding a former F.B.I. translator who charged that the bureau had missed critical terrorist warnings, officials said Wednesday.

Law enforcement officials say the secrecy surrounding the translator, Sibel Edmonds, is essential to protecting information that could reveal intelligence-gathering operations.

Impressive! Retroactively classifying information that WAS okay, but now has the potential to be politically damaging! "I order you to fuggetaboutit!"

Some nice quotes from Republican(!) congresscritters, saying this is absurd.

5. Sounds like they're just begging for a major leak.
They've issued a challenge here, and it sounds like they've irked some major players again. If the NYT is willing to publish this, there's even a chance that they'll publish anything substantive that is leaked to them. Here's hoping, 'cause Sibell can bring down their entire house of cards. She knows where the MIHOP bodies are buried.

"which comes as critics have accused the Bush administration of excessive secrecy."

This isn't a critique, this is reality.

"What the F.B.I. is up to here is ludicrous," Senator Charles E. Grassley, Republican of Iowa, said in an interview. "To classify something that's already been out in the public domain, what do you accomplish? It does harm to transparency in government, and it looks like an attempt to cover up the F.B.I.'s problems in translating intelligence."

Mr. Grassley, the fbi doesn't do things like that on their own. Please contact John Asscroft for that information. He is the newly appointed head of the whole kit and kaboodle- fbi, cia, ss..not sure about the nsa?

"Any staffer who attended those briefings, or who learns about those briefings, should be aware that the F.B.I. now considers the information classified and should therefore avoid further dissemination,'' the Judiciary Committee memorandum said."

I just did a search on what the Judiciary Committee is up to...it would be good to review the entires in May...http://www.house.gov/judiciary/

These people never rest!

uncomfortable truths can become "urban myths," especially when they're not supported by official sources. And most people have never heard the name Sibel Edmonds, and can't even conceive of her story.

12. In 'I Claudius' Sejanus (played by Patrick Stewart) declares to the Senate
"Last night our beloved emperor underwent a meta-mor-phosis. He is now...a god."

The senators laugh in derision until they realize Sejanus is dead serious. Laughing dies out nervously.

And they grimly adjust to the new circumstances and adapt to survive.

The End.
