Frist’s son stopped for alleged DUI in Princeton
Police said officers pulled over William Harrison Frist, Jr.’s 1999 Chevy outside one of Princeton University’s eateries on Prospect Street at 1:35 a.m. for making an illegal pass.

After a field sobriety test, police said, the university sophomore was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police said Frist was legally drunk, but not belligerent.

He did, however, fail the balance test, prompting the arrest, Lt. Dennis McManimon said.

"It’s weird, we don’t get too many university students for drinking and driving," the lieutenant said.

10. But who screams about their Piety?
Al Gore's family never claimed to be righteous and Godly and the beacon of Family Values the way the Republicans do. What is it with these people who claim how holier than Liberals they are, yet constantly we hear about them driving drunk, running stop signs and killing people, stealing money, being porno freaks?

Huh?

I don't care what party his family is affiliated with.

16. Probably for the same reason people have mentioned the Bush girl.
The question I have is, why did the admins delete a message that simply stated the drug and alcohol problems cross all party lines?

3. He'll get the best lawyer around and avoid responsibility.
In typical Republican fashion, personal responsibility is for everyone else.

It is ironic that this happens so often on that side, it must have something to do with roll modeling.

24. I think they were being literal
It's a very, very small campus -- no need to DRIVE anywhere. I can't believe he was even driving it's so unnecessary. You can walk faster anywhere in town and on campus.

25. As a Princeton alum
I can explain.

Princeton is a small school at which 95% of students live in the dorms, and it's in a small town, thus almost no students have cars on campus. Those that do rarely drive them. You can walk from one edge of town or campus to the other in 15 minutes. If you leave campus, it's mainly to go to New York, and students take the train there. Heck, the only parking lot for students is way far from any dorms and there are no roads through the campus itself, only sidewalks.

Frist had the car and gas money. They were going to pay tribute to their idol, Billy Carter but when Frist saw Kerry's daughter hitchhiking in that see-thru dress, he lost control of the car. Thank God Roger Clinton was the with some Peruvian marching powder and was able to stay awake to go get help. Luckily, Dean's son was nearby with a car running.

11. The next generation of yahoos..
"Police said the 21-year-old history major cooperated with officials and never used his father’s status to speed up the process."

Um..yeah, I'll bet he was more afraid of the father's wrath from the bad publicity. Frist's son is doing a summer internship in DC.. the next generation..

15. It is a family issue
Edited on Thu May-20-04 09:46 AM by HFishbine
I don't think there is any benefit from trying to impugn a politician with the actions of their non-political family members. Someone like Laura Bush would be different, but the Frist family should be left alone to work this one out. I thought the same thing when Dean's son got in trouble and when Gore's son got in trouble.

21. True, and may I add...
First, character assassination is such a key element of politics that when "family matters" arise, the lines get blurred. It's like the old joke about guys trying to insult each other with a "no mothers" rule. Everything is "fair game"...with exceptions.

We've seen Karl Rove dance around like a little fattened satyr, gleefully destroying lives and getting away with it scott free. See, we can play by the "non-political family members" rule, but please remember that Rove and Hughes and the rest follow NO rules. It's kill or be killed for them, and compassion is weakness (unless you are spinning a "compassionate conservative" scenario for Bush.

Frist's kid, I dunno...my reaction was "so what."

The Bush daughters, on the other hand, are planning to campaign for dad, and as members of the machine attempting to re-elect him, are fair game in my eyes. Once they sign up to stump for dad, they are no longer "non-political family members" at all. It's the same thing as firing mortars from the Mosque and saying that you can't retaliate because the Mosque is a holy building. Excuse me??? They're 22 years old. Let's stop calling them "kids." They're not. They're going to go out and talk about what a wonderful job their dad has done and we have to sit and be polite and listen because they're "innocent kids?" I don't think so.

And it's all my opinion...I respect the other opinions here and throughout DU and this is not a search for agreement by any means.

22. Yea, if they're campaigning and such...they're fair game.

But, the kid made a mistake. Don't pile on him because God fucked him over and gave him an asshole like Frist as a father.
