KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The names of more than 700 American service members killed in Iraq will appear in a ``Doonesbury'' comic strip during the Memorial Day weekend.

The comic will list chronologically the names of 702 soldiers killed through April 23, said Lee Salem, editor of the Kansas City-based Universal Press Syndicate, which distributes the strip.

The names were set in 6-point type to fit in the six panels for publication on Sunday, May 30. The Sunday version is prepared weeks in advance.

``The intent is to recognize those who died,'' Salem said.

The strip's author, Garry Trudeau, was not available to answer questions, his editor said.

2. I'll wager somewhere in the 20-30% of all papers range
Seeing as so many of the papers across the country are owned by large media conglomerates.

3. Of course...
It's apparently "anti-American" to honor the people who've given their lives for our country, according to the GOP.:puke:

10. No way we'll see it in Orlando...which is odd, really...
...since it will be on the internet, I cannot understand what the Sentinel or any other paper hopes to gain thru censorship.

5. Sometimes, I'm so proud of the fight we put up. We have some..
... good people on our side, who are taking some real risks. Nothing compared to what the troops and Iraqi civilians are going through, but so important.

14. How about the Iraqi civilian casualties?
As much as I decry the loss of the Americans is anyone going to take the giant step and ask about the 8 to 10k Iraqi civilians? They didn't ask for this and we've now "freed" at least 8k of them from their earthly coils.
