Pelosi questions Bush's competence: Republicans demand apology
"...House Majority Leader Tom DeLay blasted Pelosi, casting her comments as detrimental to U.S. troops.

"Nancy Pelosi should apologize for her irresponsible, dangerous rhetoric," DeLay, R-Texas, said. "She apparently is so caught up in partisan hatred for President Bush that her words are putting American lives at risk."...

..."The San Francisco/Boston Democrats led by John Kerry have now adopted 'Blame America First' as their official policy," RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie said in the statement..."

Wow. These guys have no shame AND no brains. Hey Tom and Ed, Here's a quote for ya:

"Bring 'em on."

141. Yeah, maybe if Pelosi and other dems do it more than once
then Diane Rehm and the NPR turds will HAVE to report what was ACTUALLY said. The last time Pelosi said Bush was incompetent, the Rove-fearing Rehm reported that Pelosi said "Bush's POLICIES were incompetent"!!
How in Christ's name can a policy be incompetent???????????????
The word is reserved for humans, sentient beings that can make choices and have responsibility for actions. A FREAKIN policy is incompetent???????!!!!!! Kee-riced, NPR!!!!
But forget that. It wasn't what Pelosi SAID! Diane, did you hear the word "policy" in the sentence "Bush is incompetent." Why are you NPR whores afraid of Rove? We'd love to hear why.

40. Does the Patriot Act forbid labeling the President as 'incompetent?'
Is freedom of speech dead in America?
I think I remember the Republicans calling Clinton worse than that DURING a time when we had military in Kosovo and Bosnia.

102. Dan Burton
Referred to President Clinton as a "scumbag" for lying about his affair with Monica Lewinsky. It was later discovered that Burton had fathered a child out of wedlock. But the "liberal media," particularly the Washington Post, tried to claim that outing Burton's extra-martial affair was unfair because it happened before Burton had been elected.

126. hey De Lay.remember this.........

"I cannot support a failed foreign policy. History teaches us that it is often easier to make war than peace
. This administration is just learning that lesson right now.

The President began this mission with very vague objectives and lots of unanswered questions...these questions are still unanswered.

There are no clarified rules of engagement.
There is no timetable.
There is no legitimate definition of victory.
There is no contingency plan for mission creep.
There is no clear funding program.
There is no agenda to bolster our overextended military.
There is no explanation defining what vital national interests are at stake.
There was no strategic plan for war when the President started this thing, and there still is no plan today."

Make it sound sincere and promise never to do it again, and then MAYBE, we'll think about apologizing for telling the truth that * is an incompetent, dry-drunk, fool.

79. Even Japanese schoolchildren know he's incompetant!
Here's an excerpt from a letter to bu$h from a Japanese junior high student that was published in the Japanese book "Why Do Adults Make War?":

"Are you really the president? You're not at all what a president should be. Why do you want to make war so much?

<snip>
"You may think the people of Iraq are bad, but you are sadly mistaken. I feel sorry for all the poor people who have died. Because we (young Japnese) have never experienced war, we cannot imagine how tough it is for those who suffer under it, but we know for a fact that it is horrible.

"Mr. Warmonger Bush, you are the pits. As a fellow human being, I am ashamed of you. You should look up the word "peace" in the dictionary. Don't take away everyone's happiness!"

39. The funniest part about the GOP responses
Is that they still think that strategy will work. It won't. The days of "Criticize Bush and you endanger the troops" went out about 2 months ago. It no longer has widespread resonance. It's over. Yet they continue.

They have absolutely no understanding of the situation on the ground at this moment. They still think it's 2002. Just like conservatives, they find it very difficult to adapt to change.

Nancy didn't lie to me and rest of America and send

Nancy has nothing to apologize for - nor is she a candidate for the Hague, which is where I next hope to see you and all of your lying, liver-bellied associates. Got that, Bugman?

Hi Agent Mike. Feel free to pass this on to * - and tell him he's the same abysmal failure he was in the days of Arbusto. His last best hope is that the history books will fail to mention him - but that Poppy's will will.

61. You might be right.
Newt Gingrich once gave a press conference where he swore he wouldn't speak to the press any longer without mentioning the Clinton-Lewinsky affair.

In the meantime, he was banging his intern outside of the House offices, and eventually married and divorced her.

And as best I could tell, he stuck to that dogma until '98, when he was forced out of the House for obvious reasons.

That shit rolled off on him for using it against the President--far too late to be of interest to the public at large. The House is full of incompetent leaders, of all parties. Incompetence is proven by poor performance. So let them all sing out, and let's sweep out the roaches who have strayed too far upon the grease.

Dear Congressperson Pelosi -

Thank you so much for speaking up on behalf of all of those of us who do not have the forum to speak the truth. You are a true patriot. You are what it means to be an American. Our president is incompetent and many of us have known that for years.

Thank you for having the courage to face the right-wing smear machine. Keep it coming!

Sincerely Yours -

68. LOL- the word "incompetent" is a keeper...
...and can be very effective if other Dems. pick up on it and use it in the context of a calm objective assessment.

The Reps. know the power of a definitive word or short phrase that catches on.

Note, their counter was not to defend but to attack with "blame America first".

"Incompetent" has adhesiveness the Reps are very afraid of.

Regarding rant about Nancy Pelosi: I demand an apology for the Republican's irresponsible and dangerous war initiated with lies and deceit. I guess partisan hatred is okay when it applies to Clinton and other Democrats, but not toward Bush. Republicans have shown they cannot be trusted with the responsibility of national leadership and I think will be very unhappy in November. You forget, you work for the people of Texas (I am one) NOT the Republicans and not Bush. Approximately 1/3 of registered voters in Texas are independents. You forgot us when redistricting. 129. Here's what I just e-mailed to Nancy Pelosi:
About the Republicans' misplaced demands for an apology:
I thank you for having the courage to stand up to the Republican Bully Machine and telling the naked truth about the Bush Administration's incompetence. I hear Republicans are demanding an apology for your honesty. If I were you, I wouldn't say I'm sorry for being truthful, only that I'm sorry they feel the naked truth is naked partisanship.

I say the only thing you should apologize for is that your Republican counterparts cannot handle the truth when they're on the business end of unflattering facts, although they're quite adept at spewing slander at Democrats, often with impunity. Keep up the good work at exposing the Republican leadership as the arrogant, incompetent tyrants they are.

McCain. I would vote for him because he is a great man, even if he is a repub. MORRISON CAMPAIGN CATCHING FIRE LOCALLY AND NATIONALLY
For Immediate Release: Friday, May 14, 2004

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Richard Morrison for Congress campaign today announced strong support within the district and across the country in their challenge to GOP power Tom DeLay. Campaign staffers revealed that their list of in-district supporters has exceeded 3,000 and that over 1,000 people from 45 states have contributed money to the campaign.

Morrison has raised more than $40,000 online in a sustained burst since April 28th when surprising poll numbers came to light showing that DeLay had surprisingly high negatives in the very Republican district.

Since then Morrison has appeared on Air America Radio, been named one of the "Dean Dozen" by Democracy for America, and met with the DCCC and the Texas Democratic delegation, who pledged strong support to the campaign.

Pelosi won't back off Bush condemnation
'Her words are putting American lives at risk,' says her House counterpart

Marc Sandalow, Washington Bureau Chief
Friday, May 21, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Washington -- House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco rejected Republican demands Thursday that she apologize for her strong condemnation of President Bush, as raw nerves over Iraq collided with raw politics on Capitol Hill.

Republican leaders accused Pelosi of taunting the troops, inspiring the enemy and putting American lives at risk by telling The Chronicle on Wednesday that Bush is an "incompetent leader'' who lacks the judgment, experience or knowledge to make good decisions.

Pelosi stood her ground, telling reporters that "the emperor has no clothes." With the violence in Iraq threatening to overshadow all other issues in the coming election season, each party claimed to possess the moral high ground in setting the rules for debate.

"She apparently is so caught up in the partisan hatred for President Bush that her words are putting American lives at risk,'' said House Majority leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas. "This nation cannot afford the luxury of her dangerous rhetoric.''

Countered one Democratic leader: "Frankly, that's McCarthyism.''

131. I think that's exactly what we're seeing
Two years ago, as far as the media and the general public were concerned, Bush could literally do no wrong. They're now in an extended streak where everything that they do turns sour on them, and there's simply nobody to blame but themselves.

They'll never get the veneer of invincibility back. Once it's gone, it's gone for good.

that you care about the safety of our troops and other Americans in Iraq. If you and other Republicans aren't just posturing, then here's what you should do:

Come out in support of Nancy. Tell the world that Congress was too lax in its oversight and ignored clear signs of the Administration's imperial ambitions and lack of respect for human rights. Appeal to people of good will around the world not to blame all Americans for the incompetent policies of Bush and his cohorts. Promise meaningful Congressional oversight of operations in Iraq, promise a real handover of power ASAP, promise a prompt withdrawal of US troops, and then really follow through.

If you're not going to do that, you're not seriously concerned.

105. Tom DeLay is a complete boor.
Easily one of the most boorish members of Congress ever, DeLay is precisely the last person around to admonish others about their manners, patriotism or word choice. DeLay was vocal in his criticism of a U.S. president while troops were deployed to a hot spot -- when that president was Bill Clinton and that hot spot was the Balkans.

DeLay is the piece of filth who crowed over Bush's appearance on the USS Abraham Lincoln in flight suit and with the "Mission accomplished" sign -- and sneered that he wouldn't want to see Ted Kennedy in that suit. Well, Kennedy is an Army veteran, all of his brothers also served in the armed forces, and one brother DIED in the service. DeLay never served and indeed made some rather insensitive comments about all the minorities serving in Vietnam.

If DeLay is trying to set records for insensitivity, ignorance, hypocrisy, and just plain bad manners, he's succeeding brilliantly. I can't wait to see this guy get his comeuppance. It may not come for years, but surely it will come.

113. You want an apology, Cockroach? I'll GIVE you an apology!!!
Edited on Fri May-21-04 12:36 PM by fed2dneck
Dear Tommy Delay:

I'm sorry you feel telling the truth about the Bushies and the Republicans in Congress is an act of naked partisanship. I didn't know you couldn't handle it when it's thrown back in your face.

I'm also sorry you're a irredeemable psycho who's too far gone for any human being to reach you.

115. KERRY/ PELOSI in '04!
Edited on Fri May-21-04 12:51 PM by Barkley
I've never been so proud to be from California!

I'm writing her this instant and offering my support!

I urge everyone on the DU the same.

When politicians step out there like this we've got
to show support so that others will follow.

If you would like to contact the office of Rep. Pelosi, we suggest calling the DC office at 202-225-4965, the San Francisco office at 415-556-4862, or email sf.nancy@mail.house.gov. Thank you.

I just hope Sen. "DiFi" (R-CA) doesn't come out against Nancy.

124. Hastert's comments are too easy to rebut:
House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., said Pelosi "has the right to disagree with President Bush. But her comments questioning the president's competence cross the line, '' Hastert said. "Was it incompetence that put Saddam Hussein in jail? Was it incompetence that disbanded the Taliban? Was it incompetence that spurred the fastest economic growth rate in 20 years? Was it incompetence that created the highest home ownership rate in history?'

Let's see...
Was it incompetence that put Saddam Hussein in jail? Yes. We had to lie and/or use outdated and incomplete intelligence to go in, and now Iraq is in chaos with no end in sight. Oh, and by the way, going in was a war crime.

Was it incompetence that disbanded the Taliban? Yes. Bush refused their offer to hand over Bin Laden, because he didn't want to reveal his evidence that Bin Laden did 9/11. As a result, thousands needlessly died.

Was it incompetence that spurred the fastest economic growth rate in 20 years? Why yes, actually, it was. His bungling of the economy left nowhere to go but up. It's worth noting that this was a one-month rate, not a sustained one.

Was it incompetence that created the highest home ownership rate in history? Again, yes. Home ownership went up because Greenspan lowered the prime lending rate about as low as it could go. It's practically the only thing propping up the economy.

138. It was also Hastert who lectured John McCain on troops' sacrifice.
McCain had found fault with GOP leadership's continuing calls for tax cuts in this time of overseas troop deployments in combat zones. McCain was saying that previous wars demanded sacrifices. Hastert lectured McCain about the nature of sacrifice and urged him to go visit wounded troops.

Uh, seeing that Hastert never served in the military and that John McCain not only went down in enemy territory but became a POW and was held for years on end (even rejecting early release), I don't think Denny Boy is in any position to lecture anybody here about sacrifice. I mean, wasn't McCain freakin' TORTURED? Doesn't he still have trouble raising his arms, thanks to the handiwork of the Vietcong?

Do you have to hold an advanced degree in being a major horse's rear end in order to get into GOP leadership these days? What is WITH these clowns?

125. What is it with repukes and their demands for apologies?
We DARE to criticize the idiot, criminal, lying, asshole in OUR White House, and they always "demand" an apology. But all's OK for ANYTHING, however dispicable, they say about democrats.

She should "apologize" all right.

She should say "I'm sorry you're all idiots".

or

"I'm sorry he's a lying, thieving, criminal, too."

or

"I'm sorry he's screwed the country and he hasn't been impeached, removed from office, and imprisoned for all the crimes he's wrought on this world, and I'm also sorry that we have to use just the election to get rid of these horrible past 4 years."

128. bush* IS NOT "AMERICA"!
Hey, you partisan, gerrymandering hack - get a clue!

It was bunkerboy's CHOICE to START HIS "war" in Iraq!

Stop confusing the two - bush* is an idiot, America is my country. They have little in common. Unfortunately, one controls the other, illegally, now, with disasterous results.

his lies, greed and incompetence.

You, along with Bush and his warmongering cabinent, all need to be impeached for crimes against humanity.
