Bush girls join daddy's re-election campaign

By Andrew Buncombe in Washington
21 May 2004

Snip from The Independent

In times of trouble, if you cannot turn to your family then to whom can you turn?

With his personal approval rating at the lowest point of his presidency, George Bush is hoping to inject some spark and youthful vitality into his reelection campaign by signing up his twin daughters Jenna and Barbara. The 22-year-olds will be joining Bush-Cheney '04 as unpaid volunteers when they graduate from university later this month. Jenna is a student at the University of Texas; Barbara studies at Yale.

The pair are not known for keeping a low profile. In April 2001, Jenna was charged by police with underage drinking in a bar in Austin, Texas. Then on 30 May 2001, both girls were charged after trying to buy drinks at an Austin restaurant. In July 2002, four months before their 21st birthday - the legal age for drinking - the girls were spotted in a bar in Washington.

A spokesman for the Bushes told The Washington Post: "Barbara and Jenna have not decided what role they will have on the campaign yet, but they will be volunteering their time."

of unintelligible speaking? If so, this should be fun!

However, I doubt either one if them has a good work ethic. The whole idea just sounds "right" for the bush PR campaign.

30. Now! Now! Jeb Jr. might break a nail!
Would not want the Jeb Jr. to break a nail now would we. He might do that having to cat scratch his way out of Iraq after trying to make a move on a soldier.

Wouldn't that be a story. Just seeing the "Queen" in his cut off fatigues. I can see it now...He would look like the maid in the movie "The Birdcage".

27. Betty Bowers Opens Halfway House Exclusively For Bush Children (link)
http://www.bettybowers.com/newsjeb.html

"Honestly," remarked Mrs. Bowers, "when it comes to family arrests, only the Manson family has them beat!"

-snip-

With Jeb Bush's son George's run-in for property destruction, son Jebby's arrest for having sex in a mall parking lot, daughter Noelle's apprehension means that all of the Florida Governor's offspring have had problems with the law. "My children are sort of like me and my brother the President," said Jeb Bush with a laugh. "They are real competitive. I guess Noelle was feeling sort of left out – especially after her cousins Jenna and Barbara got arrested last year. I tell you, it has never been easy to be a Bush and have to keep up. No one wants to face those reunions in Kennebunkport looking like a goddamned goody-two-shoes. W has been arrested the one time we actually talk about, but I think Laura sort of set the benchmark for the whole family when she killed that boy in high school. Never say never, but that is sort of a tough one to top! Although I came close one day when Columba came home from one of her shopping trips to Paris!" After a nervous silence and a furtive glance at his wife, Jeb added: "Joking!"

21. I still think we should leave them alone, it only makes us look bad
If we trash them. They're young women who love their dad and want to help him.

There is absolutely no political advantage in trashing the twins, it only makes non-partisan people (whose votes are needed by Kerry and other dems)disgusted by the tactics.

38. well, the Bush girls are the ones being partisan and playing politics
I'm tired of Republicans PLAYING POLITICS and being so partisan. Even the twins - now PARTISAN. Oh woe, woe - will they ever stop playing politics?

Must Bush stoop to playing politics with his own daughters, who he won't even attend their graduations for?

He's just PLAYING politics.

(in other words, turn the tables on them.)

22. GREAT! How about a "discussion" between them and Kerry's girls?
They're similar in age, each should have a good ability to relate to younger age voters.

What do you think?

I suspect "campaigning for Daddy" was preferable to "cut off without a penny". Keeping the twins busy under close supervision will help keep them from indulging in any more embarrassing exploits.
