Radio host Ross to seek seat in Congress

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SEATTLE -- A local radio talk-show host said he will run for an open seat in Congress as a Democrat and plans to stay on the air through July, raising questions about equal time for other candidates.

Dave Ross, who also does humorous commentary for CBS Radio stations nationwide, made the announcement on KIRO-AM on Thursday after heavy recruitment from state party leaders.

"It was an evolution," said Ross, 52. "Fewer and fewer reasons to say no."

Ross calls himself a critic of the war in Iraq, a deficit hawk and a supporter of President Bush's effort to give federal funds to faith-based social programs.

1. Wow! He's going to do it after all
I think this is the first time the Democrats have had a serious chance in the 8th District.

2. This is shaping up to be quite a hot race.
I wonder what KIRO will do about the equal time requests from Alben, and what the impact of the Reichert factor will be. All eyes will be on the 8th, for sure.

:hi: fy!

3. KIRO is supporting Ross to stay on air
Ross pretty much said on his show that he will not talk about the race unless the others make a case against him about it and force the issue.

They also had this funny bit about talking about Mark Sidran and how he might replace Ross on their radio. Ross said he was joking with Sidran that he had a face made for the Radio. I guess Sidran had hosted for Dave in the past, but though they said that though he stopped by to talk the Kiro heads, maybe about the legal situation with Ross, that it wasn't about hosting Ross's position.

The odds are against Sidran for Attorney General, but he does have the face for radio.

8. It does suck. However,

this has been a Republican district for a long time. Even though it's been trending D lately, Dave Reichert (the guy who chased for years and recently prosecuted the Green River killer) is running as a Repub with a lot of name recognition. Despite my mixed feelings about Ross and his doing this, I do think it gives Dems the best chance in recent memory to take this district back.

edit: either way, we still have ol' fancypants Jim McDermott on this side of the lake :D

7. Ross once did a show where "I'll prove the existence of God!"
Other than that hubris, he's a fair-minded centrist. Better than Reichert, Tebelius and Esser.
