Bush Claims Iraq 'Is More Secure'
WILL LESTER
Associated Press

CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush claimed major progress in Iraq on Friday but mourned the growing loss of American lives, 100 days after he declared an end to major combat.

"We suffer when we lose life," the president said. "Our country is a country that grieves at those who sacrifice." The tally of soldiers killed over the last 100 days reached 56 Thursday night. Bush said the soldiers had been participating in a vital "part of the war on terror."

... He cited the reopening of banks, improvements in Iraq's infrastructure and the stirring of democracy, which Bush said "is a major shift of system in that part of the world."

2. Then he grieves for everyone who misses democracy.
"Our country is a country that grieves at those who sacrifice."
By this token: you don't know what you have until it's gone. So the Supreme Court gave us a lousy president to show us what we had. That's one helluva sacrifice.

He cited the reopening of banks, improvements in Iraq's infrastructure...
Apparently, when you have been bombed "shock and awe" style into the stone age, anything is an improvement.

Bush said the soldiers had been participating in a vital "part of the war on terror."
I guess that's why soldiers were sent into Iraq early - before the war officially started. Terrorists were hiding out in the oil fields. Then we went into Baghdad and managed to corner even more terrorists in the totally unscathed Ministry of Oil complex.

6. "Then he talked about his fishing outing"
What a piece of work. This is a departure of sorts. Isn't he usually about to tee off when he makes these kind of sincere remarks?
