Timeline of Events in Iraq Around Abuse

_ Sept. 14: Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, issues preliminary interrogation guidelines requiring his approval for the most severe interrogation tactics.

_ Oct. 12: Sanchez issues a revised interrogation policy deleting references to specific techniques that require his approval.

_ Jan. 14, 2004: Army begins investigation into abuses at Abu Ghraib.

_ May 13: Sanchez changes interrogation rules to automatically disallow any of the most coercive interrogation tactics except for isolation or segregation, which still require his approval.
