Military Takes Action Against Key Witness in Abu Ghraib Abuse Scandal
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/WNT/Investigation/abu_ghraib_cover_up_040521-1.html

May 21, 2004 — A witness who told ABCNEWS he believed the military was covering up the extent of abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison was today stripped of his security clearance and told he may face prosecution because his comments were "not in the national interest."

Sgt. Samuel Provance said in addition to his revoked security clearance, he was transferred to a different platoon, and his record was officially "flagged," meaning he cannot be promoted or given any awards or honors.

Provance said he was told he will face administrative action for failing to report what he knew at the time and for failing to take steps to stop the abuse.

"I see it as an effort to intimidate Sgt. Provance and any other soldier whose conscience is bothering him, and who wants to come forward and tell what really happened at Abu Ghraib," said his attorney Scott Horton.

2. If Bush's "sorry" about this were sincere, he would make sure
If Bush's "sorry" about this were sincere, he would make sure that whistle-blower is promoted instead of punished.

If Bush lets this whistleblower be punished then Bush isn't sorry, or Bush is too ignorant to belong in his position.

4. I'm surprised this kid isn't dead
he "ran the top-secret computer network used by military intelligence at the prison". Lord only knows what he say but can't speak about because it's classified.

6. Good, ethical and moral people like him MUST be protected at all costs.

If the folks who want to cover this crap up are allowed to win and intimidate good soldiers like him into silence, then the cancer inside our government will grow much worse.

NOW is the time to stand up for him and others like him and make sure that their intimidations do *not* keep him from advancing. It is people like him who *should* be advancing up the ranks, imho.

7. nothing new here
If you are competent, have a conscience and tell the truth, you are anathema to Bushco. On the other hand, if you are incompetent, but loyal, the skies the limit.

11. Hiding and punishing the truth seekers
in the 'not in the national interest'excuse, will intimidate any soldier who has a conscience from coming forward. It sounds like extortion, witness tampering and obstruction to justice to me. There will be no justice so long as the higher ranks get a freebie and the lower ranks get jail time.
