WP: "Wood Hut" behind Abu Ghraib prison where WORSE torture took place?!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A46523-2004May21.html

The documents include statements by four of the seven MPs now charged in the abuse scandal: Spec. Sabrina Harman, Spec. Jeremy Sivits, Sgt. Javal S. Davis and Pfc. Lynndie England. Their statements provide new insights into the unfolding case.

For instance, they contain tantalizing hints about the role of military intelligence officers who operated in the shadows of Tier 1A at the prison. One military police officer said in a sworn statement that civilian and military intelligence officers frequently visited Tier 1A at night, spiriting detainees away for questioning out of sight of the MPs inside a "wood hut" behind the prison building. The documents also offer the first detailed account of how the abuse scandal unraveled.

1. Hi spooked
Great article, but you might want to change the subject line of your post to the title of the article, to conform w/ DU's Late Breaking News rules. :hi:

This passage makes me want to vomit (or beat the crap out of Graner, take your pick):

He said that he asked Graner, a Pennsylvania prison guard in civilian life, about the photographs. Graner replied: "The Christian in me says it's wrong, but the corrections officer in me says, 'I love to make a grown man piss himself.'

As far as the "wooden hut," I think it might be the building in this photo (see red arrow)...

3. I wonder if Garner learned
some of his techniques in US prisons? He seemed quite comfortable brutalizing other humans. I doubt if he had a sudden change of personality when he got to Abu Ghraib. More likely it was one of the things that qualified him for the job.

5. I've read from several sources that Graner...
...was a sick mofo when he was a civilian corrections officer in PA. I'll try to find where I've read that...

8. corrections officer in me says, 'I love to make a grown man piss himself'
Is torture and rape part of the official "corrections officer" job description in the US?

11. EW! That "crusader" thing sends chills down my spine,
,...and raises the hair on my arms. We have got to water way way down the extremist elements in our leadership. It has gotten out of control.

10. the wooden floor in the new dog photo
has much blood on the floor, old, new, dried, wet. It was a corner shot and looked like a wooden boxcar or hut? Charles Graner beat and terrorized his ex-wife as well. Stalking, kidnapping his kids, dragged her by her hair around the house. The guy is a psychopath who should never be loosed upon any society again, including ours.

13. Graner was chosen for his job.
There's absolutely nothing accidental about his assignment and behavior. They should make his personnel file public, including all ratings and commendations submitted by NCO's and officers, particularly those officers from other units.

14. Where did they get their INTELLIGENCE?!
Edited on Sat May-22-04 10:17 AM by spooked
They held a Physical Education teacher with a PhD. from Tikrit University at Abu Ghraib. I don't think they would have found any WMD's EVEN IF THERE Had been any!

US releases hundreds of Iraqi prisoners

"They treated everyone badly at Abu Ghraib. Sometimes they put the detainees on the ground and put their shoes on people's heads," said Abdulwadood Ahmed, who said he was a physical education teacher at Tikrit University with a PhD.

He said he had been picked up by US forces 10 months ago and accused of possessing weapons, being a member of Saddam's Fedayeen militia and attacking coalition forces.

During his time behind bars, he was shuttled between Camp Bucca in southern Iraq and Abu Ghraib, where he said conditions were far worse."
