FDA Warns Bristol-Myers on Pravachol Ads
Edited on Fri Aug-08-03 03:09 PM by phoebe
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Food and Drug Administration on Friday accused Bristol-Myers Squibb BMY.N of running misleading advertisements for cholesterol-lowering drug Pravachol and asked the company to quickly run new ads correcting the impression left with patients.

The FDA said the ads, which appeared in magazines and daily newspapers, suggested Pravachol had use in a broader range of heart disease than backed by current evidence and had implied Pravachol was the only drug useful for some conditions.

FDA Commissioner Mark McClellan announced the action against Bristol-Myers during a speech to the National Press Club on his agency's efforts to protect the public.
