IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - A Muslim group called for a hate crime investigation Saturday into the burning of a protest wall erected by Arab students at the University of California, Irvine.

"Because of the ethnic and religious nature of the display and its sponsors, we urge campus police and the FBI to investigate this attack as a possible hate crime," said a statement from the Southern California office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

The campus Society of Arab Students obtained a permit for the wall, which Vasich said was adorned with photographs and quotations from Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela.
It was a protest against a 425-mile complex of fences, walls and barbed wire that Israel is building in the West Bank to keep out Palestinian suicide bombers and other attackers.
