State (Montana) moves to halt Canadian drugs by mail | Missoulian
State moves to halt Canadian drugs by mail
Posted at 11:45 a.m August 8

BILLINGS (AP) - State regulators have filed suit and ordered the immediate closure of Rx Depot, a mail-order company that arranges to bring prescription medicines from Canada at bargain prices.

The Montana Board of Pharmacy filed suit last week in District Court in Helena seeking the depot's immediate closure. The business is violating a variety of state and federal laws designed to protect consumers, the lawsuit alleges.

The prescription service "is not only unlawful, but also poses a threat to cause immediate and irreparable harm to the citizens of the state of Montana," the lawsuit alleges.

The Canadian pharmacies that supply the drugs are "not subject to any type of oversight," the board contends.

1. Jesus!
Why do these people think that Canadian Drugs are some acid-laced poison drugs? It's CANADA for God's sake--it's not necessarily a shady, 3rd world country or anything.

These people make NO sense.

I like this:
The prescription service "is not only unlawful, but also poses a threat to cause immediate and irreparable harm to the citizens of the state of Montana," the lawsuit alleges.

More like, is a threat to cause immediate and irreprable harm to the pockets of pharmaceutical companies and their lackeys :eyes:

4. oh yeah! I know that
but these Anti-Canadian-Drugs people keep harping on the "Safety" issue and the "Quality" issue and "FDA can't be liable for any effects of these drugs"---they make it sound like Canadians use home-made remedies cooked up in the basement and sell them on the street corner.

THese are the EXACT same drugs that we're taking down here, but like you said--cheaper---and THAT is a threat to Pharmaceutical People's wallets.

A few years ago I was on Rx Claratin---$30 a month Rx copay here in the states. Up in Vancouver, it's non-Rx, in grocery stores for $7 a box.

THey can't make the money, and people are tired of paying $45 for $0.08 worth of medicine when they can get it in Canada for 1/4 what they're paying here.

I'm also on Narcolepsy medicine. $367 a month. Insurance won't cover it. That means I can't take it. I don't know what it costs in Canada, but I'm sure it much less than $400 a month.....

3. I totally agree
if it was an issue of importing say.... drugs from Liberia... ya, there'd be a safety issue, but these Canadian drugs came right from the fucking US factory.

5. but by *NOT* bringing that up
and only harping on Safety, Quality, Liability, etc, they're planting the seed in SOME people's mind (not as many as they hoped, though) that perhaps Canadian drugs AREN'T Safe....

However, those in favour of Canadian drugs and lower Rx drugs in the states have done a good job, imo, of reminding people that these ARE medicines made in the US, they are the SAME medicines these people have been taking, and the ONLY difference between Canadian & US drugs is their PRICE.

6. I'm Canadian...My husband & I take prescription drugs (for several years)
Edited on Fri Aug-08-03 04:14 PM by glarius
for high blood pressure (me), diabetes, blood thinner, high blood pressure and other problems (my husband)....We are doing excellently and I feel insulted that it is insinuated that our government would allow the use of unsafe drugs...You are being LIED to!!!....Nobody in Canada has to use their life savings or mortgage their homes to pay for health care or pharmacuticals....You good people deserve the same down their in the States! :)

edit--I take 4 prescriptions a day and my husband takes 7.....I believe the cost would be in the $1000's per month if we were living in the States.

8. We know we're being lied to.
Even the Congress is trying to get drug reimportation allowed. The problem is the greed of big pharma and their bought and paid for politicians.

9. So True. . .
My husband is Canadian-born (naturalized citizen) but my parents-in-law are Canadian. Whenever I go to visit my relatives up there,
I stock up on allergy meds (Allegra, Zyrtec). These very safe meds
are OVER THE COUNTER in CA, but down here, one must spend $50-$60
for a doctor's appointment and another $75 or so for a month's supply. Ridiculous! We ARE being lied to by the very powerful
pharmaceutical industry. People are now "voting with their feet"
and going to other sources for meds, and the only way that they
can stop them is with stupid laws and regulations.

If the pharmaceutical industry would stop paying out billions for
fancy ads and promotional gifts to doctors, the costs of drugs could
be lowered to something resembling sanity.
