Evidence Is Cited Linking Koreans to Libya Uranium - NYT
Edited on Sun May-23-04 01:18 AM by ahimsa
WASHINGTON, May 22 — International inspectors have discovered evidence that North Korea secretly provided Libya with nearly two tons of uranium in early 2001, which if confirmed would be the first known case in which the North Korean government has sold a key ingredient for manufacturing atomic weapons to another country, according to American officials and European diplomats familiar with the intelligence.

on edit - more:

As recently as March, when the Bush administration invited reporters to a secure Y-12 nuclear facility in Tennessee to view the nuclear hardware turned over by Libya, a senior administration official said that Libya's uranium had likely come from Pakistan. American officials say they are now backing away from that statement, while they seek to verify the new evidence.

3. I thought Libya was our friend this week
Or did that change along with Chalabi's fall from grace. And I used to think Kremlinology was a difficult science. This WMDology just takes the (yellow) cake.

5. That is enlightening
He didn't play nice (according to the conventional wisdom on Israel and Palestine) for very long, then. He probably senses now that Bush has been weakened by the torture scandal, and will not be a concern much longer.

6. North Korea sold Libya a 'giant cask of uranium' - MG
International inspectors have discovered evidence that North Korea secretly provided Libya with nearly two tons of uranium in early 2001, The New York Times reported on Sunday.

Citing unnamed US officials and European diplomats familiar with the intelligence, the newspaper said that if confirmed, the transaction would be the first known case in which the North Korean government has sold a key ingredient for manufacturing atomic weapons to another country.

The report said a giant cask of uranium hexafluoride was turned over to the United States by the Libyans earlier this year as part of Libya's agreement to give up his nuclear programme, and the Americans identified Pakistan as the likely source.

But in recent weeks the International Atomic Energy Agency has found strong evidence that the uranium came from North Korea, basing its conclusion on interviews of members of the secret nuclear supplier network set up by Abdul Qadeer Khan, the former head of Pakistan's main nuclear laboratory, The Times said.

7. Another uncomfired report
from unnamed sources...it probably came through Pakistan, who undoubtedly made a profit from it. This administration has been protecting Pakistani proliferation and brought south Asia to the brink of nuclear war when it reversed our foreign policy vis a vis Pakistan after 911.

Contemporaneous reports are usually more accurate. This story also comes out at a time when there is much speculation regarding why Israel's nuclear spy Vannu, needs to be quaranteed for life. It is speculated that he knows that the US was involved in Israels nuclear program.
