UK Iraq Document Leak Could Be Deliberate: Analyst (ABC OnLine)
<snip>

If genuine, the Foreign Office document is critical of what it describes as US heavy-handedness in the hotspots of Fallujah and Najaf, but some analysts have suggested the leak is a deliberate political ploy.

The leaked document, published by The Sunday Times, details disquiet about the American reaction to Iraqi violence and the need to maximise influence on US military decision making, with Iraq having a veto over future major operations.

Security analyst M J Gohel of the Asia Pacific Foundation suspects that far from being a diplomatic faux pas, it may have been a deliberate leak to give the impression of independent thinking by the British Government, for consumption in the UK and abroad.
