A deathbed confession in the early 1980s raised the
possibility that Chester Weger might not have acted
alone when he killed three women at Starved Rock State
Park, court records show.

As reported Thursday, attorneys for Weger are demanding an inventory of evidence from Weger’s murder trial in hopes of obtaining DNA testing to cast doubt on whether Weger committed murder. The hearing is set for Thursday, May 28.

Chicago police Sgt. Mark Gibson signed a sworn
affidavit in November stating that he and his late
partner were dispatched to a Chicago hospital to
interview an unidentified female patient who asked to
speak to police to “clear her conscience.”

“She indicated that when she was younger, she had been
with her friends at a state park when ‘something
happened,’” Gibson wrote. The woman indicated the
state park was located in Utica and “further indicated
that things ‘got out of hand’ and that ‘they dragged
the bodies.’”

I admit this news is over 24 old (MAY 22), but since the case comes up for debate on May 28th it is still latest breaking and actually brings up a question of a false confession and a question of DNA evidence 44 years old being used to exonerate an innocent man,

Thanks for posting it. Unsolved "mysteries" annoy me. I like solutions.

and Life Magazine printed them in a kind of centerfold of pictures because detectives thought the center picture had a shadowy image in the background that they thought might have been the image of the killer.

It was proved wrong later on, but the case had already been profiled by Life and that's how it probably got all the notoriety it got to begin with. You can find the photos and more info about the case here:
